I'm here 11/7/2923. Very few people and absolutely NO wins. Don't come until the strike is over. Better yet wait til long after strike is over. Buy something!

Very active one-block Greektown. Not very Greek, but quite active and interesting. On the Sunday evening that we were there, the police were setting up mobile metal-detectors at each end of the street around 7p- not sure why.

For those of us who remember Greektown in its heyday, with the Hollywood Casino and Greektown Hotel & Parking Garage dominating the area, today's Greektown is a mere shadow of the block filled with authentic Greek restaurants and shops. Only two of the old guard Greek restaurants remain...The Golden Fleece and Pegasus Taverna. (The New Parthenon closed in 2018, under new ownership, with an announcement that it will be renovated, but that remains its status. Santorini closed in 2021.) The Greek is a new addition to the block, along with the standard fare of Wahlburger's and Red Smoke BBQ. The Astoria Pastry Shop remains a staple with its array of sweet baked goods, ice cream, and more. The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral anchors the Greek presence, while Old St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church remains a lovely venue to attend Sunday mass. Within walking distance, just a block away are Fishbones and The Old Shillelagh. Detroit's Greek community still holds the Detroit Greek Independence Day Parade on Monroe Street each year in the spring.

Beautiful Catholic Church at end of street and a Casino that badly needs an upgrade as appearance inside and out would never attract me. Restaurants in neighborhood all good

I loved Atheneum Suite Hotel and the concert venues in the area and the Grand Circus Park. It was all clean and I felt safe as well.

There wasn't much there and it was OK but to be fair a lot closed up and we are not Casino people. Restaurants looked good but we did not eat there.

This street used to be lined with nothing but Greek restaurants. It is now dominated by Greektown Casino. There are only (2) dedicated Greek restaurants left, Pagasus and The Golden Fleece. It’s still a nice place to visit for dinner.

Does ANYONE make moussaka without potatoes anymore? I prefer the eggplant only. It's all delicious, I just miss ordering it without potatoes. Any advice?

We walked around the neighborhood and looked at the murals. The local people were friendly. I would say hi and they would say it back. I had a good time in Greektown neighborhood and there is plenty of things to do there.

How far is Greektown from the Detroit airport? How far is Greektown from MGM Grand?

Greektown is actually about a 28 minute walk from the MGM. You can shave off several minutes by getting on the People Mover (Times Square stop is the closest to the MGM). The People Mover drops you off at the Greektown exit, immediately entering the Greektown Casino, for 75 cents per person, per ride.
The trip back on the People Mover is even more scenic going by the Detroit River, with a quick view of Windsor, Canada.

Which Greek restaurant offers the most authentic food and is most highly recommended? We do not have a long time to spend in Detroit and want to sample the best.

New Parthenon or Pegasus are my personal preferences for authentic Greek. I like the ambience better at Pegasus; it's a little more low key and upscale as opposed to the "loud" atmosphere you get at NP. I'd use your judgment on whether you want open & loud or dark & quiet. They both have good food.
