We stopped for a break from the surf highway and found a lovely beach with nice views. Had a bit of a walk and the power station at one end is quite interesting too.

This is a very safe beach for swimming, no rocks. In high summer it is well served by the local surf patrol. Easy access to the beach, it is very flat, and yummy ice creams at the beach shop.

We’d often driven past Opunake but never stopped. Beautiful Bay, good surf, looked safe to swim. Nice little town, great coffee at two different cafes. Lots of accomodation options. GO THERE!!!
