Incredible vistas at every turn, the relaxing melody of water streaming out of several iconic fountains, the comforting smell of flowers in one of the many remarkable gardens, the feeling of history and architectural wonder all around you…just a taste of what awaits at Cranbrook House and Gardens, a National Historic Landmark. Cranbrook House is a 1908 estate designed in the Arts & Crafts style by noted Detroit architect, Albert Kahn, for the founders of Cranbrook, newspaper mogul George Gough Booth and his wife, Ellen Scripps Booth. From spring through fall, guests can tour the oldest manor home in metro-Detroit and the beautiful 40 acres of gardens that surround it; both maintained brilliantly by a non-profit, volunteer run organization, Cranbrook House and Gardens Auxiliary. We invite you to explore our historic estate, take a tour, join a program or attend an event. Members/volunteers and donations are always welcome as well. We hope you enjoy your time at Cranbrook House and Gardens and thank you in advance for visiting!

Beautiful, serene, artfully designed gardens and greenhouse. As with the rest of the Cranbrook campus, the aesthetics are flawless. A perfect place to meditate and take in the aroma and beauty of the gardens.

We were directed here by my wife's cousin. We wandered around the grounds looking at things, all of which were closed as we were there on a day that they were closed. The grounds are beautiful and the house was very impressive.

The guided tours of the house give a fascinating insight into the world in which Cranbrook was built, with many details following the Arts and Crafts style of house yet with something uniquely American too. The plaster ceilings, the lovely library, and the wonderful tapestries...More

This ranks right up there with many famous gardens around the world. The variety and quality of architecture and sculpture on the property is magnificent. Sunken garden, Japanese garden, fountains. There are some small disappointments. The sunken garden is the only place with much in...More

We were in Troy for a late wedding. We used some free time to visit Cranbrook. The gardens and grounds are beautiful. It turned out to be the highlight of the trip.

We enjoyed a quiet stroll through the woods from the museum to the mansion. The gardens and landscaping are wonderful. And the price is right (free)!

House tour, original furniture. Well informed docents. Gardens lovely. Cared for entirely by volunteers. Roof restoration going on now, but well worth a visit. Not far from Detroit.
