The complex on top of Phanom Rung hill is set in a scenic environment with views of the rural area in all directions. On the car park you will find food and drink stalls as well as a number of souvenir shops.

Amazingly atmospheric, this place has been beautifully restored over 17 years by Thailand's Department of Fine Arts. They finished in 1988 and did a great job. The long approach is to me the most dramatic feature, leading up to the temple complex. Built in the...More

It is amazing to see what the Khmer people built in the 12th century. The architecture of the buildings are full with statues and the complex is wonderful designed.

Totally worthwhile visiting this place, it’s as good a building as you’ll find anywhere in Thailand. Originally a Hindu temple and a thousand years old it’s masonry and decoration is superb. Very worthwhile visit. Totally unsuitable for the less able, lots of stairs.

We traveled from Bangkok exclusively to see this site. It was a very long journey(about 450 kms), but a definitely worthwhile one.Even after having seen Angkor Wat, one cannot help but being enthralled by what is certainly the most beautiful Khmer monument in Thailand (dating...More

Phanom Rung has been overhyped to some extent and although it’s an interesting place to visit, it’s not on the same jaw-dropping level as Angkor Wat, Prambanan or Borobudur. If you temper your expectations, you’ll appreciate it more. It’s also not easy to get there;...More

Allow more time than I did as there's a good walk up to the temple ruins with plenty to see and wear suitable shoes taking water to drink. There are places selling souvenirs and drinks before you start. Its incredible what they built centuries ago....More

The bigger of the Khmer tempels in Thailand, it draws a lot of tourists. Nestled on top of an extinct volcano, it really gives a powerful impression. The state of the ruins also really enables you to visualize what it was supposed to be so...More

This place is much better than Angkor wat. Located in Thailand, Buriram province, not far from Cambodian border. Instead for wasting your time and money for Angkor wat, I recommend you spend it for this place, design and architecture is quite similar, and here is...More

You can hire a mini van with driver for a day for around B1000 or $300. Once you get to the site you have to buy tickets for a pick up truck ride to the top.
