Great up-close view of cranberry bog
Aug 2019 • Friends
Worth a visit for water and shore birds especially. Also a great walk on a cloudy day. Highly recommend, for the unique habitat/ecosystem.

Arrived here in May and it's a little drab...cool looking in a dormant type way...bet it's great later in the year.

Not much to see off season
Apr 2017 • Couples
Still, one of the largest cranberry bogs anywhere and quite impressive. There are trails, but you can go right up to the bogs.

Interesting view of cranberries just before harvest
Sep 2016 • Couples
We stopped by the Milestone Bog to see how cranberries are grown. We were there in late September just before harvest so we could see lots of cranberries all over the bog area. If you are not familiar with a cranberry bog this is worth a short stop.

Gorgeous nature preserve. Gets a bit rough to walk in with sharp/very stiff-branched groundcover. Great place on a cloudy day.

A Nice Attraction

This Conservation Land Comprises 700 acres, of which 400 are cranberry bogs. Exploring this property is a nice outdoor activity on Nantucket.Be sure to walk down to Gibbs Pond, the source of water for the Bogs

Cranberry Festival
We visited during their cranberry festival.

It was fun! They had a cranberry sorting machine (photo#1), sheep (photo#2), cranberry cookies & chocolate covered cranberries to try, wagon hay rides, etc.

You were able to walk into the bogs (along the roads through the bog). There were cranberry bushes (photo#3). They flood the bog to make the cranberries float for harvest (photo#4 & #5).

It was neat to visit a cranberry bog (photo#6).

My only complaint was that the festival wasn't very organized as far as times and locations. A ranger was suppose to give a guided tour of the bog every half hour. We waited 15 min and he didn't show. We asked the lady behind the table again and she said to go look for him, we exited the tent and waited in the spot she said to and he never arrived. No one was dressed in the hat and vest she said to look for. So we ended up giving up and walking the bog ourselves - like everyone else was doing. We sure would have loved to hear the ranger's talk on the history of the bog & the machinery!
