This review is for the farm tour:
Hatchery guide, Angela: I love this woman. You get a oyster hatchery tour by a marine biologist! She was so informative and funny. I loved seeing all the equipment and learning about raising oysters.
Boat crew, Alana and Christopher: After the tour at the hatchery, you get on a boat with the other tour participants and two staff members. Alana, kept my tummy happy with the endless oysters she kept shucking. Thank you, Christopher for pulling up the bay map and explain where we are and where oyster farming happens.
On-Site Experience Coordinator, Karla: This person answered ALL MY QUESTIONS. Thank you.
Note: When you buy your tickets online, you will see a fee of about $10/pp. It is the website charging you, just like StubHub, ticketmaster, etc. FYI. You can tip online or in person.
I know the tour is pricey, but if you can afford it, it is a wonderful experience. Otherwise, just visit the raw bar and enjoy the patio.

I love this place - such a hidden gem and the oysters are amazing. The sushi was fresh and delicious! A few observations for Management: Please install sun shades. Most people don't want to be sitting in the direct sun anymore, and guests were clammoring (ha ha) for the very few tables in the shade. It was cut-throat on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. The sun shades are relatively inexpensive and can be installed with the existing structures and poles. While I appreciate the trees that were planted, it will be years before they are large enough to provide any real shade. Lots of dogs and babies too and not nearly enough shade. Other than the team delivering the food and drinks to the tables, it wasn't easy to quickly identify staff - very little consistency to their uniforms. The parking attendant directed us to park in the fire lane. Our hearts nearly dropped when a manager came back with his phone asking if that was our car, thinking someone had crashed into it. We were able to move it and received a round of drinks on the house for the inconvenience. Thank you for that! I will return, no doubt, but not in July or August without any shade. Last, why are the bars not facing the water?

This was a great experience. Everyone was very knowledgeable and passionate about their work. The views are great and the oysters were so fresh! We loved learning about the whole farming process and it’s history and really enjoyed the boat ride and learning to shuck the oysters. Duxbury is really beautiful. We stopped at the Windsor House restaurant for fried oyster sliders and soft shell crab and then bought fresh fish from Snug market on the way out to enjoy at home. Highly recommended.

This tour exceeded our groups expectations! I've grown up on the South Shore my entire life and had no idea how much went into oyster harvesting, Our tour guide was so amazing ( I wish I remembered her name). She knew just about everything that goes into oysters. Our group had a lot of questions because most of them were from out of state. She answered every single question without hesitation. She was super personable and made everyone feel so welcome and that no question was silly. When we went onto the boat we were actually able to shuck the oysters and eat them! Our guests are still commenting about how incredible it was. This tour is perfect for all ages. I cannot wait to take more guests onto this tour.

We had the most amazing time visiting Island Creek Oysters! We started with a tour of the hatchery that was so interesting and then head out to the boat and most importantly, oysters! As soon as we sat down we were presented with two platters of oyster, Duxbury and Row 34. Our shucker quickly realized we were professional oyster eaters and shucked them as quickly as we ate them! Once we stopped we were shown how to shuck ourselves which was really fun! As we shucked the captain and the mate both shucked as well. Just to give you an idea of how many oysters you can eat...the person across from me and his GF ate over 80 each (the record being 117 this season so far!) and between the 3 people I was with we each ate over 60. It was fun, delicious and amazing! I can't wait to do it again next summer!

This was a lot of fun and I can see why it is so popular. Our guides were very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. The tour of the facility and the explanations about how they grow oysters was very interesting. Who knew it was so scientific. Going out on the boat was nice and learning how to shuck was pretty cool and a good skill to have. The oysters were delicious.
The restaurant part runs like a well oiled machine with some good libation choices, some food and of course oysters.

Very disappointed in the size of the oysters.
We visited two years ago around the same time (our anniversary) and the oysters were twice the size.
While a nice atmosphere Island Oysters is terribly overpriced for what you get.
Sadly we won’t be going back

Very informative, fun, and tasty. The 1st part of the tour is really neat if you're into biology, i loved every minute of it. On the boat they explained the actual farms out in the bay and had trays with some ice, also had lemon and cocktail sauce. They had 3 different oysters to enjoy. They showed us how to properly shuck an oyster, but they do most of the shucking. My favorite was the Aunt Dotty. Don't pass up this tour. Go early, have a beverage, and enjoy the ambiance. It's BYOB. Bring your own beverages. Also, most importantly, please tip your tour guides. They deserve it.

A group of us signed up for this tour that took us through the hatchery and lab where oysters are “grown.” It was quite a learning experience and truly fascinating. (Thanks, Angela!). Afterward, we went on a boat to see the harbor and areas of where oysters are grown. We were treated to lots of oysters and a shucking lesson. This is a not to be missed experience!

Wow what an experience on the Island Creek Oyster Farm tour. We went in May and the laboratory was full of beakers, algae and millions of oyster eggs. We learned about their life cycle and how the market has grown. There are varieties of oysters and we saw them at various stages. We then went on a boat tour of the harbor and ate as many oysters as we could handle. The ambience in their outdoor raw bar area was a cross between camping and harborside and was a pleasant way to stick around sampling raw food choices and some great local beer!

How much is the tour? How long does it last? Are tours available daily? What times are they offered?
Thank you.
Written July 26, 2016
It's $80 per person and you can see the dates/times available on their website (just google islandcreekoysters). Choose the 'Farm' menu and look for the 'Visit the Farm' option. They aren't offered every day, so check early to make sure you can get a date/time that works for you.
