Overview
More
Built in 1797, the Chatham Windmill (Godfrey Windmill) is one of the few historic wind-powered grist mills that remain on Cape Cod. It is open for guided tours during the summer months. Twice each year the mill is set in operation and, weather conditions permitting, the mill grinds corn just as it did in the 18th and 19th centuries.

We happened to see a sign while walking downtown and headed over. Awesome to see a piece history still working and learn about the area from the two gentleman working there. Highly recommend stopping and checking out!!

We absolutely loved our visit to the windmill. The volunteers were so delightful, regaling us with the history of the windmill and how it functions. We asked every question imaginable, and they were able to tell us every detail imaginable! Highly recommend this stop for...More

Took just a short side trip to see this and it was closed. Still very interesting to see how it worked from the outside. It's odd-shaped but apparently the norm in these parts. Worth a stop.

It was an enjoyable walk through a neighborhood to see this windmill. Not much to do but sit down and relax.

This little area was off the beaten path as we took on our morning walk. The windmill is accompanied by a meditation labyrinth. So, if you are in for a breather and want to chill your mind... put this on your list. ;)

While jogging through town and touring the streets, homes and flowers in town you come to the old Godfrey Windmill and behind it a stone labyrinth. The windmill's history is interesting and the walk of the labyrinth is a good meditation spot - highly recommend...More

It was an easy walk to the windmill from town and frankly, I expected it to be a picture taking experience. While we did take many pictures I was wrong. It was so interesting hearing about the history of this particular windmill. The gentlemen providing...More

Step inside this functioning windmill and learn how it works. This is the original renewable energy source! Very interesting and informative. We learned how the top of the windmill can be rotated to face the wind. They have the grinding stones inside and you can...More

A nice surprise in Chatham, this windmill is well kept with friendly volunteers that explains well its functioning, give any kind of information on the village, almost like a Tourist Office, including free maps. Free, but gratuity is a must after you have been so...More

Located in Chatham's Chase Park only a few minutes' walk from the downtown shopping district, this historic windmill, first built in 1797 by a Revolutionary War veteran, is the oldest operational windmill on the Cape. Volunteer guides who are friendly and surprisingly knowledgeable will lead...More
