After 30 years of driving by, we finally made a point of stopping in. Glad we did. The two ladies that man the desk are very knowledgeable and friendly. Thelumber work boat and different cutting saws in teh cellar is very interetsing. If you love the Moosehead region you will enjoy all the old photos.

I was thrilled when I stopped at the Historical Society building and found photographs of a now deceased relative taken at the turn of th century. The staff was incredibly knowledgeableand I enjoyed the exhibits and items on display. I highly recommend this as a stop on any travels through Greenville.

We were fortunate to be in the area when they were holding a special lecture on the last logging days on Moosehead Lake. What a great lecture.. the folks who run this society are so frendly and helpful!!!

The staff are very knowledgeable and offer a wealth of information about the history of the Moosehead region and the logging industry. A small museum is on site with hundreds of items related to the history of logging in this region.

We arrived to get some information and ended up taking a tour of the premises, led by two women wearing outfits from a century ago. They gave us a lot of stories about the house we toured, the region in general, the days of big hotels on the lake (all now gone), and the type of life the residents had in the early days. The persons could not have been more helpful also in giving us suggestions for things to do in Greenville. If you stop here, you will be glad that you did. (And the charge for a tour is only about $5 -- what a bargain!)

My Dad dragged all of us to the Historical Society on an overcast day. It is a small place but the woman in charge was very knowledgable. They had a box with stuff to " guess' what it was and the woman was very patient with my son. Nice information about the area. Interesting things on logging and flying.

It was amazing to see the video's of the long gone logging days and the many relocks at the museum. Many pictures of period clothing. So many hard working loggers.

This is a modest but exceptionally well done showcase of one of Maines remote lumber communities of a bygone era. There are stories of noteables some still with us and some who have passed on. Admission is a donation and certainly worthy, especially as it is an all volunteer effort. This museum in town and at lakeside tells the history of this remarkable place and its noteable place in history along with the role it played as a gateway launch to the Maine's recreational wilderness. Reserve an hour and take it in for a real appreciation this regions unique place history and how it became and still remains a place of respite, soiltude and beauty that remains so undaunted today.

This is a surprisingly thorough tour. Our took took about 3 hours. The tour guides were dressed in period outfits and were excited to share the history of the estate and their own personal experiences with the area. Some rooms included extra seasonal displays so you always get a different experience year to year. The logging museum was especially interesting and informative. A must do if you are visiting or passing through Greenville.
