We parked at the Maiden Cliff trailhead on Rt. 52. Steep but short and worth the effort. Continued to Mt. Megunticook summit (no views) and then on to the Ocean Overlook. Beautiful views of Camden Harbor. Saw several windjammers leaving the harbor and raising their sails. Absolutely perfect fall day.

Good afternoon fun for the family. Bring your picnic and enjoy the time swimming and sun bathing. There are a few picnic tables, grills, Port-a-johns and a changing building. I did need to wear water shoes since I do not like to walk on stones. Several visitors had dogs but they were leashed.

We hiked up Maiden Cliff trail on the advice of a local and were not disappointed. A beautiful view of Megunticook Lake at the top. Looks like a great spot to kayak! A relatively easy hike up and wasn’t too crowded going up or back. There are plenty of rocks to spread out on top. A few families brought picnic lunches to enjoy the view. There is also a large cross at the top, marking the spot where a young girl fell to her death in the 1800s.

Lake Megunticook is the ideal lake for a day out on the water. Small enough to get to know, but large enough, and with enough nooks and crannies to spend a day poking into coves. Put in at one of the 2 public launches (If you need to rent a kayak, you can get one at Maine Sport in Rockport and they will help you load it on your car.) Head for Fernald Neck, a nature preserve sticking out into the middle of the lake. It has many beautiful places to land. Enjoy an hour or so of swimming in the cool waters, or sunning on the rocks. Many of the landing spots come equipped with picnic tables - but on a fine summer weekend they fill up fast!
You might want to paddle down to the public beach . There is a roped off swimming area with a float. Also a fair sized beach, though the sand is nothing to write home about.
If you are feeling more ambitious, head to the far end of the lake and go through the culvert (don't worry, it is large, not like going through a pipe or anything) and head up into Norton's Pond for even more lake to paddle.
Megunticook lake is located near Camden village, so after your paddle you can go get a good meal, or stroll the docks. Or hike up Mount Megunticook (which looms over the lake) for some of the best bay views anywhere.

We picked up our kayaks at Maine Sport on US 1 and they recommended this lake for a medium excursion. The put in area was well marked and convenient, and the lake shape was great for our day trip. There are little islands that you can stop at to go swimming or to take a break. the residents do no appear to mind outsiders using their lake. We enjoyed ourselves.

We climbed to trail to the top of Mount Megunticook ,part of which leads you to the Maidens Cliff overlook ,which looks out over Lake Megunticook. The trail is difficult in some spots due to the constant elevation of climbing over rocks and being carefull not to slip but its worth it.Stunning view at the top.No picture can really top reality!!You can see the nearby mountains and bay as well.Amazing!

If you have already enjoyed the beautiful Camden salt water experience and are looking for a new swimming venue don't miss out on the fresh water swimming at a small beach at Barrett's Cove on Megunticook Lake.It is literally 3 miles or so from downtown Camden and sits in the cradle of some amazing cliffs(Maiden"s Cliff) to one side. There was no entrance fee to this small park where tables and a grassy area were available also. Water is crystal clear and the depth of the water increases ever so gradually making it a great experience for children. There are some small twigs resting on most of the bottom so swimming shoes are helpful.

A great Maine lake to spend some free time or vacation on. This lake offers all-season recreational options. It can be a bit busy during summer weekends, but it's not over-crowded. Check it out and have some fun!

We enjoyed driving around this lake and looking at the various summer homes on it's bank. There are a couple of small, public beaches where you can swim and put a small boat or kayak in the water.

we picked up sandwiches on the way and spent the afternoon by the lake. Water was a little cold, but didn't stop the teen and 2 little ones from jumping right in. From here, we hiked up Maiden's Trail (trail head right across the road). Even our almost 3 year old was able to make it up the mountain
