A small and specialized museum on the beautiful Bowdoin campus. It was very interesting and hands on. They had a paper with a scavenger hunt to keep the kids attention.

It's located in a hall on Bowdoin college campus without much signage outside. Very interesting exhibit about the Peary Arctic exhibition. Also free but accepts donations.

I would not drive a distance for this museum but if your are i neighborhood, it's worth a whirl. It's free and small and, obviously, specialized. It has items related to the region. Model o ice core as especially interesting. It's confined to one floor...More

A bit hard to find because we didn't know the Bowdoin geography, but staff "talked us in" as we drove around. Lots of historical pieces and information. Reminded me of museums before computers. A really nice stopping place along the way.

Stopped off at Bowdoin College to check out this museum in particular. It’s a beautiful campus, with lovely mature trees and architecturally interesting buildings. Our family had just gotten done watching ‘The Terror’ which was a tv show about a British naval expedition to find...More

We visited on the day of the Bowdoin staff picnic and so got to the museum just as a staff member was locking up. We came back a couple hours later and were generally disappointed as there really wasn't an opportunity to ask staff anything...More

It has a good display of native clothing and artifacts. There is very little about the actual polar expeditions.

The Arctic Expedition museum is free to walk in. It isn't a ton of floor space, and won't take long if all you want is a cursory look. However, the Eskimo and expedition artifacts are exquisite. The period photos are riveting. It made me proud...More

What a "snapshot" learning experience of Artic Exploration by Bowdoin grads. They hold many artifacts, including clothing worn, diaries, and many Inuit treasures collected on the trip. Loved it!
