A natural gem in the beautiful town of Candijay.
Best to take the habal habal to the tourist area by the entrance to the waterfalls. I think it takes 100/pax (back and forth). There's a souvenir shop and a burger stand which also serves buko juice.
Can-umantad falls is a must visit when in Bohol. There's already a paved route for tourists to access the falls. Take a refreshing dip by the falls and enjoy the scenic view. On the other side, there's also a small cliff for diving.

Lots of tourists go to Bohol these days, but very few find their way to Candijay (eastern municipality about 100 kilometers from the tourist hot spots of Panglao). Unfortunate that most of the Bohol tourists will miss out on one of the more spectacular sites in Bohol. The Can-umantad Falls are hidden away in the remote barangay of Cadapdapan, in the municipality of Candijay. To reach the falls, travel the main coastal highway from Tagbilaran, past Candijay proper, to Lungsoda-an, where you take a steep road up from the local market. The road is rough and best maneuvered by 4-wheel drive, but can be traversed by 2-wheel drive vehicles with some care and skill. Follow the road for 20-30 minutes to the village of Cadapdapan, pretty much uphill going all the way.
From Cadapdapan, there is a newly constructed road that goes down nearly to the falls, a distance of about 1 to 2 kilometers, but the road is too steep and slippery (especially after rain) for most vehicles, so you will probably need to walk this last couple of kilometers to the falls. The sight is worth the effort!
The falls are spectacular, especially after a good rain or when more water is released from the irrigation system above. By all accounts, Can-umantad Falls is the highest in the province of Bohol. It's certainly among the most beautiful and impressive. Local authorities have constructed neat pathways to the falls and there are places to sit and enjoy the relaxing and refreshing sight.
The name "Can-umantad" translates to "sixty feet" which apparently refers only to the first immediate drop of the falls, which hits a rock ledge and then drops another 20 feet or so into the plunge pool, which is refreshing for swimming and wading. The rocks are easy to climb and the water is not so deep or strong so quite safe for swimming. Below the largest plunge pool are additional lower falls, also nice for wading and swimming.
Eventually, this place will be "discovered" by tourists, but for the time being it remains a hidden gem, which only a few lucky and determined tourists reach, to enjoy alongside local residents.

The directions posted by a previous visitor are quite correct. Just keep asking as you go along and the locals will keep you on the right path. We ended up not taking the paved road down to the falls but saw a sign on the opposite side of the river and wandered through the rice terraces until we meet some local boys who offered to guide us. Ends up we took the shortcut which was a steep path down the mountain. Quite difficult to maneuver for us, though the boys had no trouble at all. All the efforts were so worth it....the falls are so beautiful, and the walk through the rice fields was beyond words. If you enjoy hiking adventures, don't miss out on this amazing trip!

It is a really nice place, but it takes some effort to come there, because the roads are bad. You must have some time just to get there, because of the conditions of the roads, but it is worth the effort.

Took a van from Tagbilaran (fare P130, 1.5hr) and spent an overnight in Anda's Quinale beach. Early the next day, I took a tricycle (fare 30) and bus going to Candijay (fare 10) , travel time appox 45min. I took a habal habal from the town (200 plus 50 tip). Took us 30minutes to reach the parking area before the falls. The road is relatively okay. Then we trekked for 10-15 minutes passing thru rice paddies, not easy especially the way coming back because of the steepness. This is not recommended if it's raining because it is slippery. The waterfall is soo beautiful. I was lucky that it rained for 2 consecutive days before so there was so much water. There were only few tourists but many started to arrive when I was about to leave. There were kind lifeguards who took my pictures. Don't forget to tip them generously. Bring your water and food if you want to stay longer.

So we decided to use other traveller´s comments here to find the falls, we got quite close to it but then missed a turn. We went too far up the hill and had massive trouble not to fall off our motorbike because the path is more of a steep dirt road with rocks the size of a fist. So again: next to the town market (right next to the building on the left) is a road going up the hill, it even has a sign saying so. Keep driving for a good 25 minutes and when you make it to the town up there turn right (dirt road going downhill). Stop when you think "this is bad" because the road ain´t getting any better, so just leave your vehicle at that point and walk the rest.
All in all the waterfalls are very nice,there were so many kids enjoying the pools and the falls, just join them :)

Magnificent view of the Can-umantad Water Falls.
The place can be reach by car and motorcycle up to the gate in Brgy. Cadapdapan, Candijay. Entrance Fee is Php 20 adults and Php 10 for Kids.
You have to walk from the toll gate to the falls or take a motorbike for Php 100.
You may bring food and eat in designated areas. However, do not leave any garbage in the vicinity.

I've been here before sometime in 2001 and so much has changed. I came back with my entire family, friends and some relatives in March 2018. This use to only have a very small trail going to the spot, now their municipality has constructed a street from the main road.
We brought an SUV and we were nervous driving up and down the hill to get to the spot. Other than that, one side is a deep cliff with no railings. It is definitely recommended to ride on one of those 'habal-habal' or motorcycles-for-rent because the road going to the falls is steep and narrow. From the highway and to the main street, you can bring your 4WD and you can nicely ask locals if you can leave your vehicle on the side and just take motorcycles-for-rent more deep in.
They have cottages where you can eat, rest after a dip and eat again. The water is cool but not freezing. Its refreshing and its not too deep, right about my neck deep and I am 5'1. There where only a few people when we were there and most probably because that was a weekday when we went.
They have toilets available for you to use. This is a foresty area so don't be expecting to find a really nice loo, although they try to maintain it and keep clean. There's water in there too.
Their staff is helpful and friendly and they stay close by in case you have questions or if you needed help.
I would love to come back again!
Important Note to those bringing kids with them: JUST PLEASE WATCH YOUR KIDS VERY CLOSELY as their are parts where the current is too strong for them and rocks are slippery. There is no immediate medical help close by. This place is somewhat remote.

I'd really like to go to the falls but don't have an international license....what are my options as far as getting there?

You do not need a license to visit the Place. License drivers bring you there. If you have a driver's License in your country you can used it here.
