- Travelbugsforlife1,118 contributionsRide there was the best partWe did not have tour reservations but we wanted to visit. We drove out to Woodford and I have to say the drive is beautiful, stunning farm lands. Unfortunately that was the highlight for us. When we arrived we went to the gift store and were disappointed as it was mainly stocked with their regular Bourbon that we can get home at our local liquor store. I was hoping to maybe get a Derby bottle or something special but that was not an option. They also had some very expensive Derby hats, I appreciated seeing those but it would have been nice to have more of a selection at the store. We asked about tours and we were told we had to go to another desk to see if anything was available. We ended up not waiting to find out if tours were available as it wasn't the most welcoming place. We went outside and saw a tour group heading down the hill. I am sure the tour would have been good but we just weren't feeling very welcome.Visited November 2022Written January 25, 2023
- ShrubboLas Vegas, Nevada270 contributionsFun tour, but not the best optionPretty straightforward distillery tour. Beautiful grounds and their copper stills are very impressive to see in person. Our guide was very knowledgeable and did a great job. Was hoping their shop would have some special bottles, something you can only find there or is hard to find elsewhere. But no, same bottles they sell in every store, plus one with a holiday label but same regular bourbon. That plus the cost made it not the best option. Closest comparison would be Maker's Mark tour, and that is a far better choice.Visited February 2023Written February 24, 2023
- Amber SRoswell, Georgia264 contributionsGreat service and yummy bourbon as always! We showed up here on a whim and had a very pleasant visit. You definitely need to plan ahead if you want to do a tour, but their little restaurant/tasting room is great if everything is booked. We were able to do a tasting and the staff was very informative and friendly. Definitely recommend visiting but book in advance if you want to do a tour on the weekend.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 17, 2023
- Patricia K38 contributionsHusband's birthday weekend getawayThis was mine and my husband's first time at woodford reserve distillery. I brought him for a tour and tasting because woodford reserve is one of his favorite to drink. We had Robin as our tour guide and he was great. We loved how informative he was and how passionate he was throughout the tour. The history and the process of everything was great to learn and something my husband and I really enjoyed. The woodford reserve distillery is a bit more modern compared to some other ones we have been to but it was a great experience and beautiful grounds. We also went to the cocktail bar on the grounds after our tour and tasting it was so really nice, the cocktails were delicious and we especially liked the beautiful display of all the different and some rare woodford reserve bottles on a wall. We would totally be back. One thing we would give feedback on is it would be nice if there were some limited edition bottles available at the gift shop for purchase.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 19, 2023
- Danielle DFrederick, Maryland9 contributionsGreat Tour & Tasting; Disappointed by Availability in Gift ShopBeautiful distillery and great tour, but disappointed with available bottles to purchase. We did the 'Innovation Inspired Tour and Tasting' because it included an elevated tasting (Woodford original, distillery series, masters series & baccarat). We had the hopes of tasting them and then purchasing a bottle. The tasting was delicious, but the gift shop did not have the distillery series or masters series available for purchase. We specifically selected the tour for that reason, and were disappointed we didn't have the opportunity to buy. The website should be clearer about what they currently have in stock for purchase. Otherwise, we enjoyed our time at Woodford.Visited March 2023Written March 23, 2023
- Mark E45 contributionsAnother Stop on the Bourbon TrailI recently did the tour and tasting at Woodford Reserve Distillery on a Tuesday. I found the experience to be just average, but it isn't entirely the distillery's fault. I just feel like so many of the Bourbon Trail distilleries become similar after a while, even the items sold in the gift shops. The tour was informative and interesting, but I felt like the tours were starting to get repetitive. My tour guide was really good, however, and he is clearly passionate about his job. The tasting at the end was really nice, and I enjoyed the 3 bourbons we got to try, followed by a cranberry-lemonade cocktail. The chocolate pecan candy was a nice touch for cleansing the palette. I went across the street to the separate bar for a quick cocktail following the tour/tasting, and it was just OK. I thought $17 was very pricey for an old-fashioned, even if I did get to keep the copper glass (it wasn't even filled halfway!). The drive to/from here was very pretty, and I enjoyed the country setting amongst many horse farms. I would recommend, but all the distilleries started to feel very similar for me.Visited March 2023Written March 30, 2023
- Chad A2 contributionsLuckyWe had stopped by to check the gift shop and grab a few photos. The beauty and history of the distillery are amazing! We given a “Wow moment” when an employee Jeremy D asked if we had 5 minutes and offered to show us around impromptu and unsolicited. The hospitality and access was incredible! Highly recommend visiting.Visited April 2023Traveled with friendsWritten April 3, 2023
- BobbieTampa, Florida489 contributionsInnovation Tour was ImpressiveThoroughly enjoyed our Innovation Tour on 4/8/23 with Tresa. Lots of insights and answers to questions as all 14 of us had never been there. As a guide she was quite at ease and very enthusiastic. Our timing of the tour was perfect as we got to see the last of some newly filled barrels being rolled out to the next building for storage. That was really a thrill. I managed to get a quick video clip to send to my bourbon loving brother and he agrees it's the kind of thing that you just have to be in the right place at the right time for. Even our guide admitted she's been lucky enough to see it a few times but it's a sight that never grows old. Our tour ended with a tasting of 4 of the bourbons. The last of the 4 was the stunning high end that's in the baccarat bottle. In addition we had a chocolate bourbon candy/. It's made by another company but uses Woodford - of course. My husband, is a true martini lover, arranged the tour for me, the bourbon drinker in our home. Afterwards, he agreed he probably needs to drink bourbon more often.Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 10, 2023

- OriolezgurlWaynesboro, Virginia358 contributionsJust OKThere were no tours available at WR, but we went inside the visitor’s center and gift shop. The tastings were more expensive than any other of the eight distilleries we visited, as were their products. The gift shop is extensive and has some very nice merchandise. The grounds are lovely.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 31, 2023

We have been on a few tours and learned a bit more on this one. Our tour guide, Jamie was great! He was attentive, creative, informative and very helpful. Thank you for your additional recommendations they were great!
Appreciated the Bourbon laws broken down by the alphabet A-G. Makes it much easier to remember.
We also did the Mixology class and while I'm not a real Bourbon drinker, I loved the Bread Pudding Old Fashioned and the Double Oak Old Fashioned. If you get a chance definitely go to the Cocktail lounge and order one. We were excited because the bourbon drinker in our house has celiac disease do the Bread Pudding is an option he can drink and enjoy since we can't have the original bread pudding. How about a bourbon cinnamon roll recipe?
Shared that the spiced cherry bitters work well in a pepsi/coke to have a cherry coke. I did that on the way back on our trip and it was very good and I will definitely do that again.
Overall, this tour definitely ranked in our top 2 of the several we have done

One of the best combos of grounds and yours we took at all the places we visited. The grounds were fabulous and your was even better. The guide was knowledgeable and did a great job explaining everything. The tasting was also good. Gift shop had a few bottles of distillery select bottles to purchase. We really enjoyed our visit here and would come back again!

This distillery is in a beautiful setting in the Kentucky countryside. It was fascinating to hear how they have been making bourbon the same way for over 100 years… especially compared to a more modern distillery like Bulleit. They keep the tour groups small which made it so much more inviting. Tour guides did an outstanding job as well. You won’t get tipsy at the tasting, but you will absolutely enjoy it. The gift shop was great also, we bought t-shirts and a barrel top that was shipped to the house in only a couple of days… still charred on the inside. Highly recommend!

We attended the cocktail class and it was fantastic! We learned a lot, had loads of fun and the souvenir bag was great to take home. Unfortunately, they are one of many bourbon producers still using GMO corn.

As you work your way along the Bourbon Trail, when visiting Kentucky, please do not miss the Premier distillery on the tour Woodford reserve. It’s a little tough to get to, but well worth the trip. The distinction that this distillery has made versus other distilleries regarding their product is the best I’ve seen so far.

Ok so this is a review for a visit in late July and we enjoyed ourselves so much we came back in August! I really have to thank Kane and his wife at the cocktail bar for such great Hospitality. I highly recommend Drew and the bartending staff outside the cocktail building - Drew's drinks were on point each and every time! We will be back in a few weeks :)

This is a very informative tour. Plus the buildings are interesting - very historic. Naturally the tasting at the end is great! We did not visit the cocktail lounge and wish we had. Someone told us later it was good.

If we don’t do the actual tour, are there still things to do on the distillery site? Any picnic areas, etc?

A lot of people do not take the tour. I spend most of the time in a tasting of a flight of bourbons, with amazing revelations by the guide. I am not sure about a specific picnic area but there is a little cafe with outside seating. There is a large store, too, of course.

The web-page says tour is an hour, does that hour include the taste testing or is that sampling time additional after the hour tour? Trying to plan how long the total visit will be. Thanks.

I think you need to schedule 2 hours total. The your we took was a least one hour. The sampling took about 30 minutes with questions asked. Then you have the gift store!
How many are employees are there in the distillery itself? Not counting tour staff or marketing and sales!

Sorry but I didn’t count the employees.
I can say that in every area of the distillery including the gift shop, restaurant and touring areas there were employees visibily doing their jobs.

Has anyone ever done the National Landmark Tour that is offered? I have been to Woodford several times but we are taking a new group and looking for something new. Is it worth the cost? Thanks in advance.

Can you just do a tasting or do you only offer tours?

We were there the first weekend of this month, they now offer both. The tour and tasting is about 75 minutes. Or you can do just the tasting. They both cost $15 so I would definitely recommend the tour as well.
