- Valerie TSeattle, Washington4 contributionsFun thing to do in Louisville!Bambi and Josh were the best guides. Very helpful, funny, and made you feel safe throughout the zips. *Only complaint was that I would have tipped with cash if it wasn't suggested to me before even arriving at your location to "leave belongings in the car". Perhaps offer a Venmo or Zelle option to tip the guides.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 7, 2023

They were professional and fun. I would highly recommend this activity for any family or couple. I have ziplined in Hawaii and Alaska but this was a totally different (and great) experience in the caverns. We plan to go back and do it again. The tour guides did a phenomenal job of explaining each of the zip lines and explaining the safety etiquette. They made my kids feel comfortable and had them laughing. We went on a Sunday night @ 9pm. Very unique experience. Pretty lights with a good mix of traditional Christmas themes and modern day characters. I highly recommend going with a group and splitting the cost of the priority pass. We initially went the wrong way and the line was insane for standard tickets. Once we were sent in the right direction we went almost directly into the cave. I think if we would have had to wait that long it wouldn’t have been worth it. Music wasn’t very loud, but I would just have a Christmas music playlist ready to play in your own car. There’s no signal down in the caves, so be sure to have it ready before you go. Best part was that we could bring our puppy with us to see the light show. Definitely would recommend with priority pass.

Meh. The “cashier” at lane 4 around roughly 7:30 pm threw a fit because I wasn’t wearing a mask inside my own vehicle. She was actually very rude especially considering there was no need for us to even interact given that I’d already paid online.
Speaking of; it would be nice if you could do something to help visitors know exactly where to go when they pay the extra money for the priority pass. I ended up waiting for roughly 45 minutes which to me doesn’t necessarily justify paying the extra money to not have to wait, even more so if you’re going to have rude employees who are bothered by being asked a question. I spoke with 5 of your employees, 2 of which were beyond rude. A rate of 40% terrible employees isn’t necessarily the best business strategy.
If it weren’t for the smile on my daughter’s face when she saw all the lights, you wouldn’t have received a 2 out of 5.

We had a blast! Myself and daughters ages 13 and 16 went on Dec. 27th...an awesome time to go because the cavern is all lit up for the Holiday Drive-thru Light Show. Hailey and Kelsey were excellent guides - they made it fun and truly made you feel safe, despite jokes playing into fears a bit ...“this one is the longest and least inspected zip line of the tour”. Tips: it’s really warmer during winter months inside than you think it will be, even if it’s cold outside, don’t wear white tennis shoes, take a camera if you have a secure place to carry it, tip your guide!!

Pros:
Mega Walking: The walking tour of the cave was an interesting exploration of natural cave formations, the tools and techniques used to explore them, and the caves importance to the history of Louisville and the state of Kentucky. Our guide, Brandon, was informative and injected humor where he could, yet still kept it professional. Parts of the cave were mildly muddy, so bring shoes you didn't mind getting a little dirty.
Zombie Zipline: Ziplining through the caves was an exciting experience. The guides, Garrett and Erin were great and gave a thorough rundown of the equipment and procedures, so at no point did I feel I was in any danger. Super fun. Expect lots of downtime between ziplines if you're with a larger group, luckily my group was only me and my guest.
Cons:
Honestly, the zombie projections and sound effects were distracting and took away a little from the experience, and the pricing seemed a bit steep, but I appreciate the effort to get into the Halloween spirit.
Originally, I signed up for the mega tram, which Mega Cavern then canceled on me 5 days before so they could set up for their light show (which looks great from the beginnings of the setup we saw along the tour). For a place that won't refund you for canceling less than 7 days before your reservation, canceling on customers 5 days before their reservation seems like bad business practice, but at least I was refunded in full. The cancellation led to a scramble to attempt to rearrange my walking tour and ziplining, and through miscommunication, my zipline was scheduled for an earlier time in the day, which I missed. At first while speaking to the manager, I was only offered a voucher to come back in 6 months, which wasn't exactly feasible since I'm from northern Illinois. They were able to put me back on my original reserved time once I made it clear that was all I wanted. If the miscommunication was on their end, then I'm glad they corrected it, if it was my fault, then I'm glad they were able to work with me.
There were ups and downs, but overall, I had a decent experience and would probably come back again if I'm ever in the Louisville area, especially to see the Christmas light tour.

We took out 9- and 10-year-old kids zip lining at the Cavern and had a great time. Ours were the only kids in the group of 12, but our guides, Jay and Darlene, immediately put them at ease — and let
the rest of the group see that our kids could keep pace with the adults (actually, the kids were faster at stepping off the platforms than most adults). Jay and Darlene were personable and their positive attitudes were a significant part of our enjoying the zip lining. Thanks to all at Mega Caverns!

Three months ago I was told I was going to get a refund due to a party that I had booked coinciding with the Covid closure. Every month I would check in and they would tell me they can only process so many refunds at a time. Two months go by and they said they will mail me a check. That was nearly a month ago now still no follow up with me no expected date nothing. I tried to practice more patience during this unprecedented time but this customer service has been far worse than any I have ever received and it is enough for me to highly suggest people to think twice before ever giving them your money.

Overpriced and underwhelmed. At $20 a person, one would expect an experienced tour guide with the ability to make themselves heard. Ross (in training) was able to project his voice and keep the audience engaged while every word that his trainer spoke was lost. Script the tour with room to embellish. Stop at various points, allow the group to converge, and address the group in close proximity. Never speak with your back to.the group. Have your guides suggest photos at various points (and take them for the group). Our tour guide took one photo for us and then we were hurried along. We spent a lot of time awkwardly talking about one section of the cave and watching zipliners as the tour guide stumbled through her presentation. We then went speeding through more interesting sections of the cave. The guide is providing a premium paid service. The customers should receive a premium experience.

My family and I did the bike tour today and Gary was our tour guide. We had a lot of fun and had a great experience. Gary made it better! He is a funny guy, we loved his sense of humor and was also very knowledgeable over the history of the cavern. We learned a lot in just a short amount of time.
If you are in the Louisville area, we definitely recommend doing the tour, ask for Gary because he makes it so worth it.
The price was great, the temp inside the cavern was also great, you will get a little dirty, so wear clothing you wouldn't mind getting a few mud spots on. We were celebrating a birthday, so it was a perfect choice. Don't sit there and think about it, just do it, you won't regret it.

While it was neat to walk through such a historic area;
1. I was part of a walking tour that set off into the cavern as the same time as the tram tour- which they were using a microphone that echoed into the cavern while my guide was speaking at her own vocal tone. This was distracting and drowned out anything she said for the first few minutes and for a few again later when we crossed paths with the tram.
2. My mom and I noted that tour felt rushed and we understood why once we saw the time: The walking tour is listed on the website to be 90 minutes long, however we had departed at 2 pm and were back at just after 3! Not a deal-breaker, but disappointing especially after not being able to hear my guide for majority of the tour.
I'd be willing to come back as long back if the walking guide had a sort of microphone where it could be easier to hear as we walked. (Maybe my guide was soft-spoken?) And not set off the tram tour at the same time. Again, fascinating history and information, this was just not the setting in which to take it in and marvel.

We went in October 2020, and did the Zombie Mega Zip. It was only the 2 of us (we went at 10:30am on a Wednesday) so we were able to talk and joke with the guides. Garrett and CJ (our guides) walked us through the process and explained each rope's movements. They even explained the world-record underground suspension bridges. The zip lining was fun, fast, and fantastic. I 100% recommend this for anyone and everyone who doesn't mind spending a little more money than the museums in town. You will always remember your kids' smile as they soar through the canyons on the caves.

How long is the zip line
Written August 30, 2024
The Zipline across is fast. The time for the time you start. All depends on how big the group is. Each person is hooked up by guide. Time to get across, then unhooked, and hooked to wait for the next zipliner. We had a girl who was scared to death. The 3rd zipline her dad and guide did Alot of conviencing to do. And how all the others already went. Mady was Amazing to help her move forward. We were there 3 hours. Definitely a MUST ❣️

What should I wear to zip line? I know athletic wear but I’m thinking more in terms of how cold will it be in there?
Written February 1, 2024
I believe it was 60s. I went in August and it was so hot and humid outside, but cool and damp in the caves. I was fine with a light sweater, pants and sneakers.
Written February 1, 2024
We’re unfamiliar with the cavern or area. We’d like to take our small grandchildren. If we get tickets for the Christmas Express will we still wait in line? Will it be difficult getting to the cavern because of traffic? What about parking availability?
Written December 5, 2023
You should no problem making it to the drive thru Christmas. The cavern is large enough for many vehicles simultaneously.
Written December 9, 2023
Your weight will also include your clothes, shoes, and jacket, so if you’re borderline, they may not let you zip line.
Written February 1, 2024
Where can we park to take the Christmas Express? How early should we arrive prior to our ride time?
Written November 28, 2022
There are signs to direct you to the parking lot for the tram ride. Instead of going straight to enter the cave in your car, you will go to the left where the signs direct you, park, and walk inside (signs direct you). I called and was told to arrive 30 minutes early to check in. We went the day after Thanksgiving and it was not busy so most of that time we spent sitting around. It might be busier the closer to Christmas. We were the first to board the tram and sat at the back. There really isn't a bad seat. If you have a large group and want to sit together you might want to get there 20 to 30 minutes ahead of time to be one of the first groups to board. Enjoy the ride!
Written December 1, 2022
Do the walking tour and tram cover the same areas? Between the two tours, which one would allow me to see the most?
Written November 10, 2022
I think it is the same, but I only would recommend the tram due to the mud. it is very muddy inside, so if you walk bring shoes you do not care about. Probably a lot shorter too
