We found your place of rest with the help of a lovely French gardener. So peaceful and so humbling thank you our French friends for keeping everything beautiful. My dad is 95 and this visit means the world to him. God bless them all

So peaceful
May 2019 • Couples
The cemetery was so meticulously groomed. The flowers that adorned the monuments were lovely. There were very few people the day we visited, so it was extremely peaceful and birds were singing. It was a lovely experience.

Another beautiful cemetery
Aug 2016 • Family
The CWGC do a magnificent job in all the cemeteries and Bretteville is no exception to this. Nobody around the day we went which adds to the peaceful atmosphere for quiet reflection. Large parking area here for coaches so must usually see more visitors.

Recommended addition to a visit to Juno
May 2016 • Couples
Hope all Canadians visiting Juno make it to the cemetery. Like all cemeteries in Normandy it is immaculately kept and in a tranquil setting. The Abbaye d'Ardenne just outside Caen is also worth a visit for Canadians- not very well signposted though.

Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery
May 2016 • Couples
On 1May, at the start of our 5-day stay in Normandy, to visit many of the D-Day sites, we stopped at Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery in Cintheaux.

We visited Eric K. Pearcey who is buried there. He was the uncle of a dear friend in Montreal … the niece he never knew.

As with the other Commonwealth Cemeteries we visited: Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery, Ryes War Cemetery and Bayeux War Cemetery as well as LaCambe German War Cemetery and Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer – the grounds were immaculately and respectfully maintained. We were the only ones there on a lovely Spring day; it was so serene and, except for the birds chirping, there was only silence. It is difficult to imagine how different this beautiful region would have been during the carnage of the Normandy campaign in the Summer of 1944.

Lest We Forget.

Canadian Memorial Cemetery ....
Nov 2014 • Couples
So many Allied nations took part in D-Day & the battles in Normandy that some seem to get overlooked for their contributions until history is studied and reflected upon. Such is this cemetery, well known to Canadians, but perhaps lesser so to other Allies. It is a respectful final resting place for those who gave their all, and is definite worth visiting and honoring. ...

Sad and moving
Sep 2015 • Friends
This cemetery is on the way to the coast for me, so that I will often take visitors there, either after visiting the Caen memorial museum or the Normandy beaches. It adds to the poignancy of those visits and brings home the awful waste of life's inflicted by wars.

A sad spot, a moving experience
Sep 2015 • Friends
A very moving experience, especially when coupled with a visit to Courseulles-sur-Mer, the location of Juno Beach, where the Canadians landed on D-Day. It is terribly sad to see row upon row of headstones, some of which mark the graves of boys as young as 17, but the cemetery is beautifully and respectfully maintained. A peaceful spot to contemplate the horrible cost of war.

Uncle Reg
May 2014 • Couples
The man who, if he had lived, would have been my uncle lies here. Reginald George Long - lived in Stapleford, England before the family emigrated to Canada in 1926. He joined the Canadian Army and returned to England in 1944 to be part of the invasion force around D Day...... killed in the battle for Verrieres Ridge on the 25th July 1944 - one of the worst days for the Canadian Army.
We have visited several times over the last dozen or so years - the site is maintained to a high standard with respect to the soldiers and airmen - thanks due to those who work there.
New headstones have been installed recently to replace the originals.
Reg was only 22 - I am so moved when visiting - he, and so many others gave their lives for us all - RIP Reg.
