What an incredible talent and contribution to our wonderful Iowa soldiers who give service to our fine country in such a brave yet humble manner! LOOK FOR THE SIGNS ALONG 1-80 FOR THE FREEDOM ROCK. ITS WORTH THE STOP!

This is a Big Rock that is painted every year just before Memorial Day in May by a Local artist. You will see and feel the Heart Felt Love and Respect to our Veterans here at this rock. It is just South of I80 and...More

Only takes a few minutes but well worth the stop. Be sure and look in the shed and see photos of all the previous years. Must stop if your anywhere in the area.

Located only a mile off of I-80, the rock has been repainted yearly since 1999. It's always a moving tribute to our soldiers. Don't go expecting any frills, or even a restroom. It's there as a show of respect and honor.

Decided to add this as a side trip as we rode home from Omaha. I found the rock to be very moving since my father (A Marine) just passed away a few months ago. I have several friends from Minnesota that make an annual motorcycle...More

Two friends and I were on a cross country drive from Chicago to Concord, CA with very limited time to get to California. We heard about this rock, out in the middle of the Iowa countryside and decided we'd make the detour. We were so...More

The only positive aspect of Freedom Rock is that it's convenient to the road. But otherwise, it's a painted rock. I appreciate that some people choose to honor veterans by painting rocks, and some other people choose to honor veterans by looking at painted rocks,...More
