More
RVP~1875, the world’s leading historical furniture shop and museum, is located in the Milligan Lumber, building (National Historic Registry). Owner Robby Pedersen is a Master Furniture Maker with over 20 years experience, who has built over 900 pieces of historically accurate furniture using only the tools, techniques and finishes used in 1875 Iowa. On display is the Midwest’s largest working set of 19th-century woodworking tools, including an 1860’s foot-powered lathe, an 1870’s hand-crank ripsaw, and over 500 different hand planes. The showroom displays over 100 of Robby’s prototype pieces of furniture, each with a story of historical significance. Robby passionately shares his love of historic furniture making and how it relates to Iowa history with his visitors.

This is one of the best. The furniture is from the 1875 era in Iowa, when the pioneers had just a few quality and functional pieces. The builder of the furniture stops and gives a first class presentation of how and why some furniture was...More

We stopped just to see if this interesting looking place was open. We were absolutely blown away. Beautiful furniture—and the craftsman stopped what he was doing to give us a tour, explain why they chose 1875 as a period in time (before mass production, but...More

What a great place to go back in time and see furniture being made as it was in 1875 using tools from 1875. We were the only couple in the shop and the owner stopped working and took time to give us a tour and...More

Furniture made beautifully using pioneer techniques and tools, and wood native to Iowa. Prices--1875+inflation. More than fair!

We had an informal visit here that turned into a personal tour. If you appreciate craftsmanship but want so much more than an antique store, this is a definite stop for you.
