Beautiful park for camping. Nice level spot for a 16 ft wolf pup camper. Electric site with picnic table and fire pit. Bad thunderstorms the first night and wet site the rest of the weekend. The pea gravel on ground made the good. Quiet and family oriented. Men's bathroom with 4 showers and women's with only two. My husband said the men's showers were great. Woman's room showers with so many bugs and scary spiders with eggs, in the stalls. Shower curtains did not cover the shower width and one of the two did not have the second shower curtain so anyone could watch you showering in both. Got food in jasonville both nights. Pizza was good. The ice cream place had food. The sundae was better than the milk shake.

We came to shackamak to swim and have a family fun day. We paid $7.00 to get in the gate and $18.00 for the family to swim. We swam for approximately 1 hour then someone defaulted in the pool and the pool was closed for the day. We were not offered any kind of reimbursement or a free pass to swim another day. I came fully expecting to pay that amount for the day not an hour. We will definitely not be going back and I will tell everyone I know of our experience. I feel like everyone there should have been given a free pass for another day.

Visited with our 7 year old. We all really enjoyed Trail 2. It was a gorgeous trail that passes a closed coal mine, a creek, and winds around the lake. It was cold but we enjoyed ourselves immensely!

Nice sites. Beautiful new showers. The water was pretty. Really nice staff, especially the older lady who used to be a police chief. The pool was great, especially the water slides.
The miderste trails (2 anyway) were very weedy. Very. And despite our dog taking meds and all 3 of us being sprayed, we all got ticks. A 1st for me and the dog. And we've camped for many years. After 3 nights here, we went to Mccormicks creek for 3 nights and hiked moderate trails. Nobody got a tick.

Shakamak is a wonderful park just to go and kind of unwind. There are many trails, swimming, camping, scenery and so much more to take advantage of. I enjoy the nice drives thru the park as you see lots of different wildlife, etc. Just to sit at one of the lakes is very peaceful to sit and relax.

I would have given the park 5* except for a couple of things about the campground. If there are hard rains it the sites flood easily (which they did this Memorial Day weekend.. Campsites seem to be smaller and tighter than some other parks. But what I liked the least was that it's easy to get lost. The site numbers are generally at the back of the site. And if the camper or tent is in front of it it's very difficult to see. In most parks the campsite numbers are in front and easy to see. Would seem to be easy to correct. We stayed in one of the cabins but spent most of our time with the rest of our family who were camping.

Indiana has so many great State Parks. This one is another good one. We were just there for the weekend so we didn't get to see that much, but we got to do some hiking and hung out at the campground.
We would like to come back here and bring our kayaks at some point. They had places where you could put them in the lake.

Beautiful place, go there every year and it's amazing and relaxing. This year my sister-in-law forgot $380 in the cabin it's a 4 and a half hr drive so we called and staff made sure to save the money and they mailed it to her. Staff is very accommodating and cabins are so reasonably priced and comfy. Would recommend this place highly.
