We did not drive, got dropped off. We spoke with fellow tourists who drove here who paid extortionate amount for parking as it is in the middle of downtown. There is no real drive to drive tourists numbers to visit this place as we were left pretty much on our own for self tour.

This is a very attractive Capitol Building.
We had a great guided tour from Mindy. She had great stories to tell, and she answered all of out questions.
The building is beautifully decorated with paintings, sculptures and architectural flourishes. The Representative's chamber has an amazing mural of the front was and an equally impressive chandelier. The Senate Chamber is called the fishbowl because it is surrounded by three floors of windows to office areas.

This remarkable capitol building was recently refurbished to its original likeness and it is fabulous. Our excellent guide told us that art students reproduced superb designs throughout the four story building.
State capitols are fun and educational places to visit. The Indiana state capitol building is a must.

I enjoy touring state capitol buildings when I travel, so I had to stop by for this one. It was on a weekend, which most aren't even open on the weekends, so there was almost no one vying to take the tour. However, there was a huge wedding on the main floor which limited the tours. I did a self-guided tour and enjoyed walking around the third and fourth floors taking in the architecture and viewing the various chambers through the windows since they were not open for access.

I had no idea that a self-guided or a guided tour of the State Capitol was available. As we were visiting the canal and Eiteljorg Museum as well, we enjoyed free parking, and it was only a short walk to the capitol.
We only walked around the rotunda area but also were welcomed to the Governor's office where we could see his personal inner office. Visitors can come in when he is not on the site.
Next time I would make time for the guided tour. The worker at the information desk was so helpful and eager to make sure we had an enjoyable visit. We really felt welcome.

We had an awesome time at this state capitol. The building is beautiful inside and with very detailed carvings on the walls and stairwells. This Capital is one of few where the State Sepreme Court has its proceedings in the same building. We were able to go into the chamber and walk around. This was not the highlight of the day, we asked the visitors desk where the governor's office was located. She called to see if he was in and he was not and gave us a tour inside his office. I have been to 15 capitals but I have never been in the actual office of the governor.

One of my favorite tours in over 30 years of traveling. Tour guide was phenomenal, energetic, engaging, and knowledgeable. I learned SO much more than I anticipated. Those walls contain so much history!
We even got to peek in various Government offices that were currently unoccupied.
Fascinating stories behind the Governor’s large table, and also the historic stencil paintings around the building.
I highly recommend this free tour!

This was one of the best Capitol tours we have been on (# 14 for us). The guide was so knowledgeable, I am sorry I can’t remember her name. It was 45 minutes long. We got to go into the Governor’s office, the House floor and the Senate floor. The tour guide also made sure we collected our stamps for our newly purchased Capitol passport book.

This historic building is absolutely beautiful. The rotunda alone is worth the visit. I retrieved a copy of the self-guided tour booklet and wandered through the place and was approached by several folks wishing me well and asking if I had questions. For the most part everyone was extremely nice and pleasant w/ the exception of the guards at the entrance who were downright surly. For that reason and the fact that I was told there were no guided tours since the legislature was in session, yet I saw a docent leading a group around and pointing out features, &c so I know a tour had been arranged by someone.
If visiting plan to go when the legislature is not in session as the chambers are closed to visitors (there is a glass partition to view the rooms and the sessions), parking is difficult, & there are no guided tours (supposedly).

Very attractive and stately (no pun intended) building. We did the self tour saw we like doing these at our own fast pace. This is one of the last Capitol buildings I had yet to visit (some others were outside visits only) but it’s definitely one of the nicest.

No, no fee. We usually get a private or semi-private tour of state capitols but when we visited, we were with a small school group. That is always good because we actually get more info. than if just adults. Of course, I ask questions to 'fill-in-the-blanks' of info. given. I would like to add that after the IN capitol, we visited the Wisconsin capitol- beautiful and full of history also.

Hours for a self guided tour.

Group tours need to be arranged in advance, depending upon the size of the group--of course. I suggest you go to the Statehouse website and find contact info about tours. When we visited in March, we "tagged along" with a school tour, and that was fun!
