Overview
More
Fairfax State Recreation Area is one of 9 state recreation areas located on Monroe Lake (Bloomington, IN) and managed by Indiana State Parks. Fairfax features a large swimming beach (open seasonally), a hiking trail, 3 picnic shelters, 2 boat ramps, and plenty of opportunities for hunting and fishing. It's also home to the Fourwinds Resort and Marina, which is a privately owned and operated business that leases space at Fairfax SRA. Fourwinds has a hotel, 2 restaurants, marina, boat rental, swimming pool, private beach, and other activities/amenities for resort guests. The restaurants and boat rental are available to the general public. As they are a private business, reviews and comments specific to the Fourwinds Resort and Marina should be posted on their separate TripAdvisor page.

Traveled for an Archery Tournament. I just have to say that every Indiana State Recreation Department employee that we encountered were some of the NICEST and accommodating people ever. They wanted to hear our feedback regarding the course and overall it was the best tournament...More

On a very hot day this was the place to take my 3 daughters! We took a picnic lunch and a cooler, played in the water and had a great day! We had fun and made lots of memories!

The beach needs a lot of work. Most of the sand has been washed away. It was a clean beach and worth the trip if you have a state park pass.

This is a great place to take the kids to make sandcastles and swim in the water. There are public bathrooms and a picnic area. If you follow the paved path around the water you'll find a walking trail through the old marina. There is...More

Have to get a lake pass but nice lake . Lots of small fish when fishing but fun. Check out the party in Allen creek if you like to watch lewd partners. Go by dam if you have children

Part of it was fatigue, but I felt a little underwhelmed by it. Much of the water is protected for boats, and it feels a little isolated from everything if someone were to get in trouble. Didn't see a lot of amenities like concessions -...More

I live about 10 minutes away and visit the area quite often throughout the year. It's a good place for shore fishing, kayak paddling, beach activities & boating. The entry fee is kinda high: $7 for residents & $9 for out of state. I guess...More
