I have lived in Indianapolis my entire life, and never heard of Fairfax State Recreation Area at Monroe Lake. From what I understand, it's even fairly well-kept secret from the locals. My friend visits the beach every weekend with her boys and others join her...More

During the summers my kiddos and I are here more than anywhere else. It's the best lake beach I've ever been on. We love to pack snacks, cooler, the canopy and our puppy and hit the beach for an afternoon of fun.

On a very hot day this was the place to take my 3 daughters! We took a picnic lunch and a cooler, played in the water and had a great day! We had fun and made lots of memories!

The beach needs a lot of work. Most of the sand has been washed away. It was a clean beach and worth the trip if you have a state park pass.

The entrance fee for both properties is exactly the same ($7 per vehicle with Indiana plates). I'd say that the view from both beaches is pretty much the same! The primary difference between the two beaches is that Fairfax... More

There is a charcoal grill located next to most of the shelters. Shelters may be reserved; otherwise, they are available first-come first-served.
