We got here and the sign said it was open on Friday but they were gone for lunch. It was a little after 11 so we decided to go across the street to the distillery for lunch. Pretty good burger and fries. No one had...More

If you’re a history buff and love Abe Lincoln this is a must stop location an easy 5 minutes off the highway. See where Abe Lincoln got his start as a lawyer and walk the same floors where he started the movement to abolish slavery.

Historic oldest state house in Vandalia. Built to help keep the state capital in Vandalia. Restored to the time Abraham Lincoln served there. 2nd floor is original, so you can walk the floor Lincoln walked!

This first capitol building for Illinois has been very nicely preserved and the docent was knowledgeable and very friendly. Donations are accepted - I recommend it to help maintain the place and keep it going.

I'm delighted I took a break from driving to visit this fascinating building. I was given a wonderful introduction to its history by the young woman caring for it, and then left to wander around on my own. The various rooms have been lovingly recreated...More

Vandalia is the second of three Illinois state capitals and has the oldest Illinois state capitol building. This is an awesome place to visit. The historic significance begins the minute you arrive on the grounds and read the plaques that are placed along the side...More

May not be much for the average visitor, but if you are a history buff or especially a fan of Lincoln, it is pretty thrilling to see the real floor that he walked on as he cut his teeth as an early Illinois politician. The...More
