Phew what a climb

The best part about this castle is the view when you reach the top, take some water you'll need it. Narrow steep path finally reaching a tiny castle.
Beginning of the 14th century, a small castle was built by the knights of the Order of Santiago on the top of the hill. Due to its dimensions, troops couldn’t stay there but its location and height made it the perfect place to guard the river Garcíez and watch the surrounding villages.

This is the 3rd visit to the little town my husband was born in, and I am already thinking about the next! This time we had really good weather (unlike the last 2 times) so we walked up to the castle. It was amazing, the steps and path are really well maintained and in the shade, the views are to die for and the information and history given on the boards is excellent. I can only recommend finding the time to do this, it is really worth it. And for such a little village it ticks all the boxes - a cheap friendly hotel, excellent picnic area and municipal swimming pool (in summer only), several little bars with free tapas - and cooler than down in Jaen!
