See my earlier reviews (July 1, 2018 and September 7, 2020) for more information about Old Orchard.
This open-air mall wall was designed with meandering paths; water features (don't miss the stunning koi pond); children's play areas; random seating, trees, plantings and planters; old-fashioned street lamps; and other features meant to enhance the shopper's experience.
Rather than employ the traditional food court concept, coffee shops and restaurants are scattered throughout.
Well-placed directories and signposts help one navigate the expansive mall.
There are about eight thousand parking spaces in outside lots and indoor garages.
Whilst so many other Chicago malls are dead or dying, Old Orchard is attracting both new businesses and happy shoppers.
And, yes, I'll complete my review by mentioning (for the third time) that Old Orchard holds a special place in my heart because it was the destination of my very first solo drive.

The theater is awesome. I can’t say how amazing it’s. Very comfortable, new, clean. The decorations are modern and the restrooms are very nice, clean and clear. Highly recommended and would always love to choose this place all over again for theater ❤️🇺🇸

I lived in The Hilton, in Skokie, Il for 10 days. This mall was across the street from my hotel. Who built this mall, out doors in Skokie? Winters are tough in Skokie. Temperature was -7. I'm used to indoor malls, I'm calling Westfield Properties and telling them to spend some money and enclose this a mall with a roof.
What do they do in summer when it rains? Really nice people.
But like I said, what else is there to do in Skokie, IL?

The mall's property management needs lessons in environmental management. Salt application is obscene. From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (January, 2024):
"The upper Mississippi River is getting saltier
Chloride concentrations in the upper Mississippi increased by an average of 35% between 1989 and 2018, the report found.
"Chloride is a component of road salt — which is a major driver of the increases in the river, according to the report. Water softener salt can also be a contributor. It’s nearly impossible to remove chloride from water once it’s in, meaning that this salt has accumulated in the river over decades.
Increasing salt content can wreak havoc on a freshwater ecosystem like the Mississippi River — killing aquatic plants and animals, raising the risk for harmful algal blooms, seeping into groundwater and corroding pipes and other infrastructure. It also increases the river's electric current, degrading the overall environment.
"Lauren Salvato, who coordinates the water quality program for the Upper Mississippi River Basin Association, called the chloride finding 'a really scary trend ... the one I emphasize the absolute most.'"

Two days ago, on a beautiful sunny day, I drove to the Old Orchard shopping center. It is such a beautiful shopping center! Whatever you enjoy, you will find there! There are lovely restaurants and stores. It is a beautiful place to just enjoy the day! Whether you are looking for Macy’s, Nordstrom’s, Rolex, or a small shop, you will find them all here!, Great place to spend a day!

Great stores, spacious sidewalks, lots of eateries, clean, and well-kept. Parking can be a challenge, as usually with a popular place.

This outdoor mall reminded us of many of the centrism we shopped at in Europe. Pedestrian only walkways, open door stores, beautiful fountains, outdoor dining. Shops are higher end, but fun to browse. A great experience.

Great stores like Nordstrom's, Bloomingdale's, Aveda, Free People, Brighton, Vera Bradley and Teavana. Plenty of shopping for the whole family. Great place to shop or just get out for a long walk. Plenty of restaurants. We chose the Blaze for pizza. Great place for brick oven thin crust pizza. You can customize your own individual pizza so those of you families that all like different toppings, this is the place for you!

Pretty decent outdoor mall. Variety of medium to high end priced stores. in the center is a play area for the kids. Parking can be a challenge, particularly if you need to park close to an entrance so wear some good walking shoes. Since it is an outdoor mall, the weather will likely affect your experience so you'll need to dress appropriately. Lots of restaurants to choose from if you want a snack to a sit down meal. Gets crowded during the holidays despite the weather. There are also plenty of discount stores in strip malls along Skokie Blvd, if you can't find what you are looking for in the mall (Old Navy, Ross, DSW Shoes). Should you take I-94 to get there, the Old Orchard exit gets backed up sometimes so pack your patience. This mall is also accessible by public transportation (CTA and Pace buses). Overall very clean and a nice place to spend an afternoon to shop, have lunch or dinner with family and friends.

Are the common areas of Westfield Old Orchard mall at Skokie pet friendly?
Written June 24, 2019
Not being a pet owner, as much as I know it is, including some or most or maybe even all stores, as long as the dog is leashed, of course. But it’s still worthwhile to call the management in advance, they might have some limitations on the kind or size of the dog.
