Never going again because of their untrained security folks

Will never go again. Went for the first time with my dog and it didn’t occur to me that dogs were not allowed as I usually go in Chicago and dogs are allowed and welcomed at all of the markets I’ve been to. I didn’t see a sign, and walked in with other people who also had dogs on leashes. I’ve been very sick for a long time and this was my first outing outside of my neighborhood in Chicago. The security people screamed at us in a violent and humiliating manner and accused me of lying when I said I didn’t realize dogs were not allowed, and that I didn’t see the signs. They kept screaming at all of us as we tried to leave and were very abusive and threatening. It was very violent and aggressive and shocking and abusive; I will never return. The security people seemed as if they wanted to escalate conflict and violence. None of us wanted that, but imagine what could have happened if someone responded at their aggressive level? Why are these people not trained? All they had to do was quietly and kindly say, “dogs aren’t allowed at this market.” No one realized that dogs were not allowed, otherwise we would not have gone. I tried to explain that we did not see the sign because of the way we came in, and one security guard kept screaming, "You just told a big lie. You a fibber. You a big fibber." It felt deeply classist as well. I am so thankful I live in Chicago. This turned me off so much that I decided I will not ever support any business in Evanston, ever. (This has nothing to do with the farmers as many of the same vendors also are at the markets in Chicago and are great. This is about the city of Evanston and the security guards they have not bothered to train) Every person who was kicked out said they will not ever return to this hostile market. A customer without a dog walked out with us and apologized about their behavior as she was horrified as wel
Farmers lie about being organic

The woman who curates this market doesn't require farmers to show organic certificates. P&M farmer outright lied to me when I asked if they're organic. Yes, he said. Can I see your certificate? Don't have it, he said. The curator told me he is NOT organic..i went back and told him. He double talked me. We use organic sprays he said. I told the curator who said that's ridiculous! If they spray they're not organic. I told her she should require they have certificates. She shrugged. Also a few vendors wouldn't take coins for breads so i returned to the main booth to tell this curator. She got irritated. Who won't? she said. She ran over to mindful bakery to tell them to take the coupons and they'll settle up later. But it was not fun. These vendors are not to be trusted. Maybe farmers are struggling but lying about their product and refusing to participate in the coupon program is unacceptable. I used to work with farmers in California at the markets and we had strict rules for proving organic status. We also bartered on bulk. We always gave great deals. Compare to Evanston market prices and farmers demeanors. Insane. Even for non organic. I spent $63 total for greens, tomatoes peppers and bread. Produce was from the one i was told was actually organic . There was just ONE. But don't trust them..the farmers gouge Evanston residents because they think it's a wealthy community. Trader Joe's whole foods and jewel have better prices. Sure its my intention to support farmers. But you cannot trust these guys. I'm horrified at the attitude if this curator, too. If she isn't requiring proof of organic then we are being fooled. There's no complaint process here either. Very shady You can bet i won't be going back.

Love it every Saturday we can make it. Our favorites are Henry's, Ruth's stand across from Henry's (best hanging flowers in June and best corn in July and rest of season), Teresa's, Nichols (great tomato plants in June, onions, potatoes, greens, beans and watch for apples at end of season etc), Green Acres, the berries stand in next row east of Henry's. Musicians and so many other great farms for mushrooms, herbs (across from Nichols) etc
And free parking with validation.

There is a huge variety of vendors here and the parking is plentiful. We finally found the best cheese made locally by The Cheese People! There are beautiful plants and flowers, cheese, produce galore, jams and jellies, meat and eggs.....so much too see and buy!

Behind Hilton Garden Inn on Saturdays, this mainly fresh and organic food market features fruits, vegetables, flowers, cookies, bread, etc. We bought some apples, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, wasabi peas, and dulce alfajores (Argentinean sweet), as well as lunch takeout of chorizo omelet, corn on stick, chicken/steak tacos, and a cinnamon banana crepe to eat at our hotel room.

Wonderful morning with friends. This is an amazing market! Nice selection of farmers, and other artisans. Just cooked up the peach and bacon vendor's Italian sausage with peppers and mushrooms served on organic sour dough whole wheat bread. OMG! Brought home corn, cilantro, beans, and cute baby succulent, too. Bought some yummy gluten free backed goods and had Mexican corn and a taco for lunch...so good! Can't wait to go back!

Convenient location, parking ok. Local producers well-represented, but it's the presence of the folks from around the lake in Michigan that really make this special.

The quality of the fruits and vegetables for sale is uniformly high. There are also beautiful flowers, delicious baked goods and prepared foods, and various items like oils, vinegars, and honey.

Amazing everything from flowers, food, culture and more. Parking can be a pain so a short walk is very enjoyable from the neighbor area streets
