Holy Name Cathedral is a nice enough Church and if you happen to walk past it might be worth going in. However if you are not interested in Churches or going near the area this is very missable. Note: this is a working Church so...More

I had to check out this church due to the gangster history. One of Al Capone's rivals was shot outside this church and you can still faintly see bullets holes - you have to look very close and know where to look. A lot of...More

Beautiful stained glass windows and rich woodwork. We visited on a Friday afternoon and it was quiet enough for us to sit and pray. Was part of a walking architecture tour we did in between meetings.

It has the most gorgeous color stained windows and all the exquisite details all over the architecture. You have to get a peek inside.

The ceilings were made of wood and were beautiful. A larger church, it’s alter was made of wood not marble

After 50+ years of visiting Chicago, I had never been to Holy Name Cathedral. I've seen a ton of U.S. cathedrals and was really disappointed. It looked like they did a remodel in the 60s or 70s. I preferred the traditional story-telling stained glass windows...More

I saw Holy Name Cathedral on the Untouchables gangster tour. Its a very beautiful church. I appreciate the architecture. I love the rich history of the place. The story of couples taking pictures by the bullet hole is hilarious and romantic.

It's a Church . . . go on in as long as it is not after visiting hours. I sincerely doubt if they appreciate cameras flashing though. While you're there, light a candle, say a prayer and leave a couple bucks in the box.
