The directions given were a bit confusing, but we arrived and it was fascinating to see how the water smoothed and carved the riverbed. Kids loved it. Watch out for spiders!

Found this quite by accident and were glad we did. Thanks to directions from other reviewers we had no trouble finding the place. Spent a couple hours hiking around, but you could spend all day or multiple trips back to this place. Really cool formations,...More

The spill way is not that easy to find. One reviewer gives great directions and we followed them. It's with in two miles of Indian ice caves. The creek had water in it so we only saw portions of the cool rocks. Definitely a geological...More

We followed directions posted on TA and never found the site. We stopped and asked several locals about the various locations and they weren't sure either. We did find the one location off of Highway 75. The word "canyon" is deceiving here as it's more...More

Like another reviewer mentioned, drive about two miles north of the ice caves, take a left towards the reservoir, and park on the right by a kiosk. Walk on the path towards the left and continue onto the riverbed a couple hundred yards. This place...More

Following the directions leads you to a cattle gate that seems like private property but it is not. We took the right lane at the second Y in the dirt road and ended up parking on the side of the road and walkover over to...More

This canyon is gorgeous...so different from other volcanic areas that we have seen. Over eons, the Big Wood River has created unique works of art in the black basalt of this place, smoothing and polishing each individually sculptured formation. Imaginations can run wild here as...More

I'm amazed that this is not some sort of National Monument or State Park. The walk through the small canyon is amazingly beautiful, like one of southern Utah's slot canyons, but colored ebony rather than red. Time it carefully as it carries irrigation water in...More
