When 94F outside and 32F inside the cave, it feels wonderful. It's amazing to think there is a natural ice cave in the middle of the desert, but there is.

The story about the discovery of this cave and the removal of the ice was fascinating. After the cave was destroyed by opening up the area to "mine" more ice the geological process was ruined and all the ice melted. Restoring the entrance/exit has allowed...More

They have some awkward statues out front and a one-room "museum" that had a DVD playing of the cave and some "artifacts" found nearby, but that's it. The tour was not worth the price though. The scenery was nice and the cave itself was neat...More

I've driven by the spot to quite a few times and I finally decided to take the tour . It was pretty cool to see the lava tunnels and the ice, but this is definitely not a destination. The Tour guide was nice and it...More

There's not much too it. It's a lava tube that has a bunch of ice in it because of a weird air flow pheomenon. Which is cool. The tour guide we had was pleasant and knowledgeable. Downside: no flush toilets.

We had time to spare on a recent roadtrip so made a stop at the Shosone Ice Caves. The buildings and such are old and not very well maintained. That being said, the tour (costs $10 and lasts about 40 minutes) was pretty interesting, especially...More

There are two caves within 6 miles of each other. The one that is labeled as the Mammoth Cave is far better. Although it's a "self guided" tour, they give you a lantern and there are signs throughout giving you the facts and details about...More

It's a nice cool cave on a warm day. It's right off of the main highway. 75. Near Shoshone Idaho. We had a nice tour guide and the cave was about 28 degrees. Ice was inside in July. It's worth a stop. Kinda ties in...More

We saw this while driving by and are glad we stopped. $10 tour and they loan you a sweatshirt since it's below freezing in the cave. You could feel the temperature drop significantly as soon as you descend into the shaded part of the lava...More
