We visited North Beach two days in a row in June 2021. The first day was absolutely gorgeous. It was sunny and warm. The water was warm and calm and you could spend a lot of time just hanging out in the water. The beach was very crowded, about three families deep. The next day was cloudy and windy. The water was rough and red flag. The sand was blowing on you as you tried to relax in your chair. So, just like every other beach, the conditions really depend on the weather.
Each day we paid for parking from 10am-3pm and paid $27 each day. There are restrooms (port-a potties and an actual restroom a little farther away) as well as an outdoor shower to rinse off and changing areas. We didn't have any problem finding parking, but we arrived at 10am. I would guess later in the day if would be more difficult to find a spot.

Beautiful weather, spent the day at the beach just to get a citation. We didn't see the sign and broke the rule. The lady came by where we were sitting soaking it in driving a really nice Kawasaki Mule 4x4. We waved and said hello being friendly. She circled around us and wrote us each a ticket. No warning or attempt at correction. Just a huge $300 fine for each of us. Beware of Tybee rules, they are money making on easy going vacationers. Some folks told us that locals don't want tourists there. Maybe that's why we got taken advantage of.

North Beach is less congested than South Beach. We knew going in that Atlantic beaches just don’t compare to Emerald Coast beaches such as Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, Destin, Panama City Beach, etc. We stayed in a condo “close” to the beach. As close as you can due to the protected dunes. We really couldn’t hear the waves from the condo due to the distance but the view was nice. There are both pros and cons that can be weighed. We wanted to explore Savannah so Tybee Island was a great way to have a land & sea vacation all in one!

Our family visited on a Wednesday for a beach day during our trip to Savannah. We arrived about 10:15 and parked on 8th street in a spot with no trouble. We did not want to be at the pier with the rest of the crowd. We had no trouble using the app and paying to park, though it is the most expensive parking we’d had in our stay. We found a spot without people close to us and enjoyed the water. Our school age children just wanted to be in the water the whole time. The waves were rough that day, but we had a great time getting tossed about and body surfing. For lunch, we walked down to the pier. It was good walk from there, but we saw the advantage of being a bit down from the crowd. We ate at the pavilion from the grill. It was food you’d expect from a beach stand. There were also restaurants, including pizza just past the pavilion on the (15th?) street. We had nachos, hamburger and hot dog selections. The pavilion had bathrooms that was just for using not changing. We walked back to our towels and had more time in the water. We did not see showers that day but later found a single rinsing station at the end of the pavilion.

Parking is difficult. Downloaded app and paid via app and still got ticketed ($69). Turns out it was a misread of the plate and the very nice people at the parking office fixed the problem. The beach was crowded on a Tuesday in April. The beach itself just ok. Yes, I’m spoiled.

It's the closest beach to Savannah - 20-30 min away or more w/ traffic. Ride share drivers don't relish the long trek and an empty return trip so timing is everything.
The beach is clean and wide - chair/umbrella rentals (cash only on the North Beach) are convenient. The food shack provides basic fare at beach prices. Happily they take credit cards.

Head’s up absolutely no dogs on beach even in low season….and very expensive parking. We went to explore, paid our parking fee and found nowhere to go. You can walk around the parking lot with your dog….pass.

Drove down many hours to visit only to get a ticket for parking in a lot where there is not one sign diriceting you to pay to park. We bought ice cream for 2 and it was close to twenty dollars. The whole island is a big money grab. Sad to see that.

Beach was clean, but there was only one restaurant to eat at, didn’t try it as I had eaten at the Crab Shack prior, highly recommend that place! The beach could use some more food choices and there was no stores to buy souvenirs. I was told South Beach would have all of that. So if you want just a beach go here, if you’d like food choices and shops go to South Beach.

North Beach is a family friendly beach with showers, restrooms, food, swings, a view of the lighthouse, and a small park nearby. You'll find families with kids on this beach. I recommend North Beach if you're looking for a family experience.

Is there Verizon reception there? I want to visit but I have a couple of work calls I need to make in the day

Are there public restrooms for those just visiting the beach? Are they conveniently located and clean (if there are restrooms)?

My daughter and I are planning a trip mid-March and wondering whether to stay in the heart of Savannah or at North Tybee. We don’t need to venture into the water, but would love to just hang out on the beach. Is the weather conducive for that? Is there much to do on Tybee island this time of year? Thanks in advance :-)

Any time of the year is a good time to visit Tybee, my wife and I did a March visit one year and it was cool for a couple of days and then warm enough to just enjoy the beach, we just like you don't need to go into the water but rather we enjoy being able to sit on the beach and enjoy a good book or just solitude. I can't forecast weather but I would suggest staying on North Tybee to enjoy the view, Savannah is a short 20 minutes away with plenty to do. Tybee is not full of attractions which to us is a good thing. My wife and I just simply enjoy the beach (beach bums) Make sure you look at tide levels and times in order to know the good times to be on he beach.

Hello! Planning on being in Savannah for the first time over Easter break. Staying downtown at Kimpton Brice and wondering how to get to North Beach from there for a day of sunshine. Thanks in advance!

Are there any condos on North Beach?
Written February 10, 2017
Yes. Check on Home away website. Beachfront condo, amazing sunsets from the balcony, Beach and Racquet. We loved it!

There are not camp sites on the actual beach. However you can camp on the beach on little Tybee island which is a short trip by boat or kayak from Tybee back river beach.
