Great Little Not Well Publicized Park in Roswell.
Jul 2021
Although as a brave soul, I have gotten on planes a few times during the pandemic. I try to most often, find new adventure at home in the ATL area. Waterfalls being a favorite, we have quite a few in north Georgia. Yet recently, another photographer told me about Roswell Mill Park, with its Vickery Creek Trail.

It seems to be a combination park. Part of it operates under the city of Roswell and the other under the National Park System.

First Impression- I was blown away at how unique this place was. There's a small parking lot, get there early on a weekend, but weekdays are good for finding a space.

What you first see- Is a nice covered bridge traversing Vickery Creek. However, if you turn to the left, there is a trail heading down to a nice man made waterfall.

The water at the bottom of the falls is clearly not deep because visitors (kids included sit on the rocks right under the falls and bounce around having fun in their swimsuits. There is no paved path to the bottom of the falls, you must be careful to crawl over rocks.

However, the falls does make a great presentation. Beyond the falls is a walking trail, but I didn't go very far on it.

If you cross the bridge instead, there is another raised elevation walking trail, that is not very wide, so you have to pull to the side to let someone by as they come in the opposite direction. Also on the other side of the bridge there are stairs that carry you down to the stream level, where lots of trees shade you so you can just chill out with your feet in the water.

Again, the bottom of the stream is rocky. So I'd suggest you bring some beach water shoes, which most folks I saw did not have.

My main focus was the waterfall and stream below it. So the photographs that I took here mainly concentrated on those areas. I will take time to explore it more later. But my first impressions were that this is a really great not well known park to visit outside of Atlanta.

IF the maps were all there, maybe we would not have felt so uncertain about this trail. The markers/maps were far different than the trail listed on All trails and in several instances there were 4-5 trails intersecting with no guidance. I had hoped this trail followed the water closer but for a park in the middle of the city, it was peaceful and lovely.

Fun Trail
Nov 2020
We had trouble finding the trail itself even when we used a GPS. We were able to find it as well as parking at 95 Mill Street, Roswell, GA 30075.

This is a fun trail- if you know where you are going and depending on how experienced you are in hiking. Our advice is to wear hiking boots. If you do not have hiking boots, then sneakers. There are parts of the trail that are unpaved, but still walkable and there are other parts that are unpaved and uneven and you can easily get hurt. We saw a couple goofing off and not paying attention to the trail and the female slipped and landed on her back.

Our second piece of advice is to take a picture of the trail map. With the fallen leaves, it is easy to see what you think is a path and that is not really a path. Also, take a picture of the map because there are very few markers on the trail. At times, we would look for a marker, hike and then discover that we had already passed by the marker.

If you appreciate nature and hiking on uneven terrain, you will enjoy this hike. The air is so clean and fresh that you realize just how unclean the air that you normally breathe in is.

Parking is free, but difficult to find if you go after mid-morning. Restrooms are surprisingly clean despite the number of visitors.

Five star trail with one star maintenance from the National Park Service.
Sep 2020
Five stars for the City of Roswell’s part near the mill. Five stars for the beauty, the trail design and scenery. One star for the National Park Service which has dropped the ball on maintaining the trail. Been coming here for nine years and in the last few years the NPS has simply let things go. The crumbing drive and washed away trail near Riverside Drive is appalling. Used to be well maintained. At the same time it is busier than ever. Just a little effort from the NPS would go so far.

A gem close to home.
Sep 2020 • Family
A hidden jewel close to home. My neph and I were headed a couple hours away to Toccoa Falls in north GA mountain area for day hike. Then, I remembered Vickery trail was actually closer to home than I thought.
Labor day weekend was a beautiful day to get out, enjoy the scenery-the hike is along Chatahoochee river, get some exercise-trail starting at Riverside drive entrance to the waterfall is about 2 miles, 4-5 miles total depending on route; take this route with caution.
Be careful, there are some steep cliff faces that can be a little tricky crossing.
The trail is densely populated with beautiful forestry offering the perfect shade for this unpaved hike.
I recommend starting/parking at the Old Mill Park as the trail will be a little easier.
The waterfall is the grand finale and offers a awesome view after a great hike. Overlook the bridge for more awesome views and go up and down stairs for vantage points of the fall.
Enjoy and be safe.

Beautiful location

One of the better trails 👣 in Georgia. The parking is interesting. If you put in the Mills Street address in your GPS there's a parking lot near the covered bridge. There's parking on the side streets too, but this is a residential area. There's stairs that lead to the top of the trail. The falls is really nice. If you climb down to the base be careful, very slippery. Some areas I wouldn't recommend for younger children to climb down. Very clean.

So Cool!
Aug 2019
Very cool place. Very laid back and everyone does their own thing. One guy was burning incense and praying, which was cool. You can get right under the fall and let it massage your back, which feels amazing. The vibe is relaxed and everyone is friendly. Great place to take some food, have a picnic, cool off, make some friends. Stoked about returning next year.

Beautiful waterfalls

Beautiful park with beautiful bridges and of course the waterfall. They have plenty of viewing points to see the waterfall there's also a small trail that would take you down to the waterfall for a better picture.
