This is a great museum and it is full of some of the history in Stuart. The ladies who put their heart into preserving the history of the town the love are so sweet and more than happy to take the time to give you a tour while explaining the history. It is filled with lots of antiques, old tools, old appliances…it’s like when you rummaged through your grandmas attic. We really enjoyed slowing down and stepping back into history.

Ok, so this is a small museum about a small town. I took my Dad when he was in town and we stayed almost and hour. It is free admission. There were a ton of cute "older" volunteers.I really enjoyed. it.

A free and interesting local “Americana” museum in downtown Stuart is open every day from 10:00 to 3:00. This museum will entertain you with artifacts, displays and pictures of the local Martin County area. Eighty percent of the museum is artifacts, numbering over 10,000, are from local residents who have donated freely to this museum.
Operated by volunteers of the Stuart Heritage Organization, this museum will give you a good idea what has passed in the area for the last hundred years. There is a potpourri of many different themes starting with the early Seminole Indians, Henry Flagler's railroad and a large section is given to Stuart High School which was a focal point of the community for a very long time.
The structure was built in 1901 by George W. Parks and sold general merchandise. In the 1940's the business became known as Stuart Feed Supply. The building was purchased by the City of Stuart in the 1980's.
We particularly enjoyed seeing various sewing machines and my wife could relate to the old fashion “ice box.”
The famous actress Francis Langford is honored at the museum as she lived in the area.
A local writer, Ernest Lyons, is recognized for his work as an editor for the local newspaper and his several books that he wrote. Lyons books are filled with vignettes of what life was like in Martin County in the early and mid 1900's. It is a good read.
For a first time visitor to the area, this museum will give a unique perspective of the community that once was. For a “cracker,” like myself, this museum brings back home style nostalgia of how things were.
Kudos to the volunteers and the people involved in preserving this piece of local history. Don’t forget to take a walk along the river’s boardwalk which is directly behind the museum where extra parking is located. Just imagine that the St. Lucie was once “blue,” something that may never happen again.

This free museum is worth visiting. It is large enough to give you a feel for a time long gone and small enough to keep you interested. It is worth the visit.

Delightful little historical museum! The docent was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Learned a lot of new things. They need better publicity.

I had a wonderful guide and learned so much about the history of the area. I would suggest that all travelers should take the guided tour.

My college reunion group toured the museum and found the guide and her information starting with the indians up through Frances Langford to be a real treat while visiting Stuart. What impressed us so much is the love and pride everyone has for Stuart - its history and it's current attraction for people from all over the world.

This little building is packed with fun and interesting memorabilia from FL history. They had the best display of Seminole hand-sewn garments I have ever seen. Every square inch of this building has something interesting to read or look at. The volunteer staff were knowledgeable and happy to chat about anything in the museum. I don't think this would be as fun for young children as it was for 2 people n their 60's. It was quite an unexpected pleasure to visit.

My family and I drove 1 1/2 hours to get to the museum. Just to find out that they were closing early. I advised the woman that we just drove one and a half hours to visit the museum and they were closing early. I advised the woman that according to the website that I used. They were open until 5pm. She stated till 3pm. I looked at my watch and it was 2:40. I advised her that you are still closing early. She said yes. and my family left. Please be advised that they do close early and without notice.
