    The Dali-Florida connection
I'm fairly sure I have little to add about this fabulous little museum. The permanent exhibits are an insightful history of Dali's development as an artist. If you take the docent's tour you will learn tons about his symbolism and approach. There's an amusing 3D goggle experience. There was a special showing of their collection of Dali's drawings--they redefined "drawing" to include watercolors and any medium on paper. Despite the stretch, another insightful exhibition. There are life-sized videos of Dali playing at several locations. What a showman! I enjoyed a glass of their house wine in their garden, and wondered what will occupy the expansion they're building. If you appreciate Dali, schedule a few hours here. Going to website and ticketing in advance is a good idea.
Thank you for sharing such kind words! We're so glad the Museum and everything it has to offer resonated with you; hope to see you again!

    Great for Dali Lovers
As a Dali Lover for me was a dream come true to visit this museum after visiting all the rest of Dali museums. I would put it as 5 as I was interested in the work and felt inspired, if I wasn't disappointed by the shop experience More detailed 1. It is quite small museum, the walk tour was interesting but very short. 2. Few interactive activities to spent time on , interesting for kids and grown ups. 3. I was disappointed by the shop - few of the items were quite pricey and I believe that you can find them also online. 4. Cashier of the shop was very slow and rude. There was only one line while we were 4 people waiting, the second cashier joined and asked us to move there. I moved with another lady, and I was second on the line. while I was moving there was another lady that stood behind some red ribbons for the queue ( which I havent noticed) when my turn came the cashier told me that the other lady was before me, I told her that I moved from the other line as she asked. Since she was extremely slow I decided to move back to the other cashier. While I was leaving I heard her laughing and commenting with the lady that took my place. I found this offensive. For the average person it is a small nice museum that you can get information for Dali,
Thank you for your review and feedback. We are sorry that you had an unpleasant experience at our shop - we take your concerns seriously and hope you can accept our apology. We're always working to create an even better Dalí Museum experience, and your feedback will help.

A $30 million art museum dedicated to Salvador Dali's works
The Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, features the largest collection of the renowned surrealist artist's works outside of Spain and is the No. 1 attraction in the city. Located at One Dali Boulevard, on the downtown waterfront, by 5th Avenue Southeast, Bay Shore Drive and Dan Wheldon Way, the $30 million art museum was designed by Yann Weymouth and features a large glass entryway and skylight made of 1.5-inch thick glass. Referred to as the "Enigma," the glass entryway is 75 feet tall and encompasses a spiral staircase. The remaining walls are composed of 18-inch thick concrete, designed to protect the collection from hurricanes which strike the region from time to time. Originally, from 1982 to 2010, the Dali Museum was located in a marine warehouse not far from the current site. The new building, located next to the Mahaffey Theater, on the former site of the Bayfront Center, which was demolished in 2004, was opened on January 11, 2011. The museum's collection includes 96 oil paintings, over 100 watercolors and drawings, 1,300 graphics, photographs, sculptures and objects d'art, plus an extensive archival library. The museum is home to more masterpieces of Dali than any other museum in the world, including the large-scale paintings "The Hallucinogenic Toreador" and "The Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus" and "The Ecumenical Council, Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of the New Man" and "The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory." Surrealistic in every way.
Visitors like you are why The Dalí Museum exists. We're so glad you could enjoy the artwork, especially the large-scale paintings. We work among these magnificent pieces every day, and never take that for granted, especially when we hear kind words from people like you. Hope to see you again soon!

    Must do
This is a MUST. The museum is not huge and overwhelming as some other great museums are. The staff is amicable. Start with a video about the exhibit, and bring your phone, as you can interact with some of the art work as you walk along. Easy parking for a fee, well located, cafeteria downstairs, and during the summer heat, this is a sure way to stay safe indoors while having fun!
Your happiness makes us happy; we hope to see you again soon!

    Dali worth every dollar
The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, FL is an awesome immersion into the artist Salvador Dali. It holds an impressive collection of his works in an atmosphere of reverence and appreciation. The building itself is a work of art and perfect to house Dali’s work. It offers easy parking, easy access, clean restrooms, a coffee shop and a beautiful gift shop. The staff are cheerful and helpful. The free audio tour is informative, easily obtained on a cell phone and sounds clear and personal on earbuds. The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, FL is definitely one of my favorite museums and I hope to return again in the future. I highly recommend visiting at least once.
Thank you for sharing such kind words; we are so glad you had a wonderful time with us! We couldn't agree more that the Museum's building is a work of art unto itself. Hope to see you again soon!

    Well worth visiting
We travelled via St. Petersburg on our way to Orlando from Miami specifically to visit this gallery. It was definitely worth it. A huge amount of Dali’s works are on display, including pieces he painted as a teenager. We were very pleased to have visited at a time when the special exhibition was of Dali’s preparatory work and sketches, and loved spotting the finished pieces in the main gallery that followed. The building is also impressive to see. Parking is $10.
We're so glad you went out of your way to come visit us at the Museum! Hope to see you again soon.

    Bravo Dali museum!
I love this place. This was the second time we have visited. We did not give ourselves enough time. I recommend 4 hours at least to be able to take it all in and enjoy some delectable and creative offerings at the café. We did the 360 experience which we really enjoyed. The Dali Live kiosks are brilliant and had us laughing. If I lived here, I would have a membership and visits regularly. Sadly the flaming giraffe on display in the gift shop is not for sale otherwise we would have bought it. We love that giraffe! Bravo Dali Museum!!
We are so glad to hear that, and thank you for the kind words! Although you don't live here, we do hope to see you again soon.

A stunning museum both for art and architecture
A stunning museum showing the works of Dali. However, the architecture is stunning as is the location. Do the 360 experience to start with as it tells the story of his time on Spain and relocation to the US and back. The cafe is good but a little slow.

I was familiar with some of the workof artist Salvador Dali and his celebrity persona, but was so much more impressed with his art after going to this museum. It's a state of the art museum, very impressive, inside and out. Highly reccommended if you have any interest in contemporary and important art. Also reccommended if you just want to see cool stuff in a cool place.

Really worth the time to visit this museum. Was not a huge fan of Dali's work but this museum really presented him in the proper light, gave context around the time period and historical events which shaped his art, and enabled me to appreciate his work much more. Stayed in the museum almost double the time we planned. Make sure you have the benefit of a good docent - ours was great but I cannot remember her name!

This venue is a must stop!!
Having visited the original museum in Figueres,Spain three decades ago, we decided to go and see the Dalí museum in America.
Though smaller collection, it is very well organized. You can get in touch with Salvador Dalí creative genius!
It was incredibly eye opening!
We first started our visit by going to the dome to watch an amazing video about the artist. Worth it!
Then, we visited the collection.
The museum grounds are nicely kept!
The Cafe Gala had outstanding snack selection…you must try Tarta de Santiago.
The museum shop has a unique selection of items reasonably priced.
A Must Stop in the Tampa/Saint Petersburg area!!

We were in town for several days for our 50th wedding anniversary. Our last visit was 30 years ago so there were new venues we wanted to see along with those we had already experienced. The Dali Museum was among the latter. We don't remember much about the old museum except that it had many more master works. Not a big deal when you enter this amazing space and begin to understand and remember what talent Dali had.

Teagen, at the front desk, accepted our $3 off coupons (up to 4 adults or seniors) for discounted gallery admission found in the Discover Downtown Map and Guide combined with the senior admission price found on the Discover Downtown Guide and Map. The coupons are also available on the Discover Downtown mobile app. We visited on the last weekend of the "Dali and the Impressionists" exhibit. Dali was influenced by the impressionists but didn't feel their style would last long.

There were several knowledgeable guides available to answer questions. We especially appreciated being able to take (non-flash) pictures. One guide overheard me lamenting that the 'melting clocks' masterwork was not in the museum. It is in another museum but he directed us to the Dali Alive 360, "an immersive experience bringing Dali's work to live like never before." There, on the outside of the dome, is a sample of the melting clocks which can also be seen at the Dali Alive 360 for an admission add-on.

Restrooms are clean and plentiful. People rave about the cafe. We met a woman who had the gazpacho and pronounced it excellent. It does great business but we didn't want to spend our limited time waiting in line. If you do have the time, be sure to eat outside and enjoy the view. We visited the gift shop for souvenirs; they were wrapped well. Pricey, yes, but I found a cool shirt on sale.

The museum has a strict policy about backpacks and liquids in the museum. An attendant checks all bags. Free lockers are available at the entrance which we used. It was a relief to safely store the backpacks. Simply select a four-digit code from the keypad, take a picture of the code and locker number. scramble the code and walk away. Easy and secure.

We walked to the museum from the Pier; our car was parked in the Sundial Garage. I saw that the free Downtown Looper had a pickup at the Dali which we boarded. The Looper only stops at the museum when it is open. We enjoyed a city tour while en route back to the garage. If you ride the free Looper, be certain to tip your driver who is committed to getting you safely to and from your destinations.

A FANTASTIC museum. Some great work here. The key to seeing Dali’s paintings is to see the work within the work. For instance, look for Abraham Lincoln. If you enjoy art, we haughty recommend this museum.

My wife and I moved to the Tampa area three years ago and have been wanting to visit St. Petersburg. I talked her into a Sunday trip to the Dalí Museum. I had checked out memberships online but decided to wait until we arrived at the museum because I had a couple of questions. So here’s the review.

Let’s start out with the bad. We rolled into the parking lot and were told to drive farther down to the covered area. I’m a 100% Total and Permanent Disabled American Veteran with license plates. Yet we were charged $10 for parking. Had I purchased the membership, parking would have been free regardless of ADA status. Next, my wife got her purse patted down on entry and she uses a walker but they just asked if she had anything in the walker. Feeling that her selfie stick wasn’t an issue she claimed no. Well once in the museum when she went to use it she was stopped by security. He radioed his boss asking if she could just put it away in her walker but bossman said no and to have her take it to one of the free lockers. I was gallant and took the offending stick outside to the bank of lockers but realized, hey I’m not that far from the car so I took it there. So a couple of things to remember about parking and selfie sticks.

I purchased a North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) membership which gets us access to other NARM museums throughout the states as well as Dali museum access for my wife and I and up to five children under the age of 18. All of this for $165 a year. There are other levels for purchase so check out their website or inquire at the museum.

One thing they had for fun were Dali mustaches at the information booth. These are simply black pipe cleaners but you can fashion it into a fun Daliesque mustache to wear around the galleries.

Next we moved to the Dali Wing where his art is displayed. I knew Dali was a Surrealist but the amount of detail in the paintings was amazing. There were paintings of all sizes and of differing aspects based on the time of his career.

Next was the special exhibit of Dali and the Impressionists. This gallery had works by Monet, Cezanne and other well known impressionists. One thing I didn’t know was that Dali began his painting career doing impressionist work and his pieces were also displayed.

Next it was onto the Cafe Gala (Named for his wife) with its traditional Spanish fare. I’ll review the cafe separately. Lastly we visited the Shop were you can buy several items including prints, shirts, jewelry, books and more. Keep in mind members get 10% off of the Cafe and 15% at the store.

The Museum is located on a great piece of property and the building itself is a work of art. I think you’ll enjoy your visit as much as my wife and I did.
