This is a lovely, historic downtown area that is on the water. The historic area has restaurants and marinas and private homes. Sort of reminds my of Key West. Very walkable.

In the downtown, it is a safe area. The same precautions should be taken as any other City.

There are a few hotel, one right on Palifax and a few a couple of blocks away.

Yes, they practice when in town on Wednesday afternoon. Also the "Home Coming Show" is in October. May people go onto the Naval Air Station for this event as the center of action is at Sherman Field on board NAS.
