My wife and I stopped by these ruins to see what they were about. Not much here to see, and signage was not great, so we could not get a sense of the history of this place. Worth a quick look, but that is all.

The “fort” is basically a foundation which has a mysterious history. There are various reports of what it actually was originally, but a hotel was on the sight at some time. Not much to do but walk around the perimeter and read the few placards....More

Took about 20 minutes to walk around these ruins. Interesting view from the top wall facing out to the harbor. Imagine a Civil War gunboat coming into view and sending cannon balls into the hotel, destroyed the entire building. Dogs are welcome at the park....More

Do something different during a typical beach day. Love the history. Glad I discovered this on my second visit to New Smyrna beach. Just a nice little break from eating, shopping, swimming and sun bathing.

Okay so I wasn't blown away by this site, but it has a really cool vibe to it. We had loads of fun taking photos at this spot. There's not much to do here just take photos or maybe just hang out. It might be...More

We were staying in town and just happened upon this site. Very interesting history, and what remains is impressive. Definitely worth a look.

My understanding is it is unknown what was built atop these ruins originally, who built them, when they were built or why. Many different known structures have been built atop the ruins over the years and of course have long since disappeared. Across the street...More

What a great place. Some would think it were too simple but it is great that you are allowed the opportunity for free to walk the old foundation and climb around and use your imagination and envision the past. We had a great time!

There's not a lot at the Old Fort Park. Anyone visiting should go to the park if they have time, but it's definitely not a must-see. The park is located within walking distance of Canal Street. Riverside Drive goes past the park, as well as...More
