About
Pérez Art Museum Miami is a modern and contemporary art museum dedicated to collecting and exhibiting international art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Established in 1984, the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) evolved from the Miami Art Museum, which grew out of the Center for the Fine Arts (CFA). The CFA opened to the public in 1984 as a partnership between Metropolitan Dade County Government and the Center for the Fine Arts Association Inc., a private 501(c) (3) corporation. In 1994, on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, the CFA's leadership determined to transform this County department from a space solely for temporary exhibitions into a private institution with a permanent collection dedicated to international art of the 20th and 21st centuries that reflected Greater Miami's diverse community and pivotal geographic location at the crossroads of the Americas.

    Unforgettable tour with Thomas Wheeler
Great experience with our guide Thomas Wheeler! We were lucky enough to have him only for my friend and I. He is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his job that is a privilege to count with him yesterday. We saw some pieces of art of the permanent collection that were so enlightened to us that enjoy art but we are not experts by any mean. He was so patient and answered many of ours questions knowledgeably. He knew a lot of the background, technics, history etc of each painting or sculpture we saw. We were so lucky to have him and enjoyed every single minute of our tour together. Congratulations to PAMM for counting in their staff such a great professional.Thank you Tom for an unforgettable experience!

    Perez Art Museum
My husband and I go to the Pérez Art Museum every few months during the Bank of America Free Museum 1st weekend of the month for BOA cardholders. This past trip was on the 2nd Saturday of the month free family day, and now I know that they have activities for kids I’ll bring my nephews to Miami for some art fun. The location is gorgeous by the waterfront.

This museum is well worth the trip! My husband and I spent 2-3 hours here easily. The exhibits were relevant for the history of Miami up to the present day. The outside is also quite something to see as it sits along the waterfront. Don't pass it up! Great thing to do as an alternative to going to the beach if you want to get out of the sun, heat and humidity for a couple of hours!

    perfect sunday afternoon
Moderate sized museum with a substantial art collection. All the art was carefully selected. They had many different rooms for different artists. Each room was beautiful, some related to more serious topics while others were whimsical. It was a quiet and calming environment. Stunning garden with major scale sculptures. Beautiful view of the cruise ships in the bay. You may find out the parking structure is full. Parking is $20.

PAMM was on my bucket list for Miami and it was good timing with the Warhol/ Marisol exhibit. I thought the permanent collection was lacking and thought there would have been more to the sculpture garden. At the end of my visit I stopped by the Verde restaurant for lunch. I didn’t see a hostess so I found a small table and seated myself. A staff member came over and told me they were not taking walk ins because they were expecting a large party. I left and on my way out saw her seat others. Maybe there was a reason for that, perhaps they had reservations, but I was still disappointed because it was lunch time and I was pretty hungry, and the restaurant wasn’t too busy. I thought they could accommodated me since I was only one person. Museum dining really should be more accessible for museum visitors. I’ve been to many museums over the years and being turned away for dining was a first. People come from all over, spend time on their feet visiting collections and can’t even stop to relax and eat; it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don’t know that I’ll return or recommend the museum.

It is unfortunate that this amazing collection of art is run by such a rude and unprofessional staff. The museum is not marked clearly but paying customers are not allowed to wander and view the art. There are attendants in each doorway eager to snap at you and tell you you’re not allowed to walk a certain way or enter a gallery until you’ve viewed many other galleries. The whole experience was extremely uncomfortable and made us want to leave. I did not shop at the gift shop because of it.

Despite not having many known works of art, (depends on taste of course) and most of the exhibitions are not to my liking, some I Love it. it remains my favorite and mandatory place when I go to Miami, the museum has an excelente distribution and lighting, to appreciate the art with calm and comfort. In other words, excellent building Museum.
They still need to improve the cafe restaurant, please. Such a nice place misused.

Preze Art museum’s collection was paltry at the first look. It seems too contemporary and abstract to our taste. Turning around a corner, we saw a very interesting collection of paintings on Chinese history. There are a good deal of neon lights signs with interesting activism messages in another exhibit. A museum staff was very enthusiastic about explaining some bronze status which has some biblical significance. The architecture and outdoor space is unique and beautiful. The surrounding Bayside museum park is magnificent to stroll around with a bay on one side and many skyscrapers on the other.

The Perez Museum features contemporary art emphasizing Latin and Caribbean art. While I am not a great fan of such art, I found the collection a bit limited. There was an current exhibition of contemporary art from Africa which was so-so but the permanent collection was somewhat sparse. Having said that, there were nice Stella and Segal works and an interesting weaving by Igshaan Adams from South Africa. The museum itself , is set in a nice park overlooking the bay in downtown and is quite impressive from the outside. Admission is $16, seniors $12 and parking $15.

PAMM to me, has alway sbeen about the quality of whatever special exhibit is on view as the permenant collection to me feels a little thin, notwithstanding the captions written by wanna be literary art critics reaching for meaning when often then isn't much. At the moment, both Liminal Spaces and Mariano are well wroth seeing. Liminal in particular is a whimsical and fun display of interactive installations that in itself is worth the price of admission. If you leave without smiling, you have no sense of wonderment.

Disappointed with PAMM’s policy regarding ESA

We’ve visited the PAMM several times in the past with Mika, our 4 year old ESA. We’ve never had an issue. Today, Stephanie Vasquez refused to allow us to enter the museum. After explaining that we’ve come here several times in the past and never had an issue, she simply sent the security guard over and he asked us to leave. Stephanie explained that she had never seen the ID for Mika before and therefore we were denied access to the museum. Extremely disappointed with PAMM and manager Stephanie Vasquez.

This is an update. On the last day of March,2022,I returned to this art museum. This art museum caters to people who have strong propensities for Late 20th Century and Contemporary Art.At the Perez Art Museum, the works of Hispanic and African American Artists are very well represented.Personal favorites that day were;Zhivago Duncan's"Pretentious Crap"(mixed media, evokes fond memories of Bryce Canyon),Gisela McDaniel's"Speaking Seeds"(painting),Lynette Viadom Boakye's"King For Him"(painting),Jose Bedia's"Deer Island"(painting),Gene Davis'"Blue Freak Out"(Washington D.C. Colorist Painting),and Simone Leigh's""African Women's Breasts"(mixed media, depicts struggles of African Women)Famous Artists such as;George Segal,Robert Rauschenberg, and
Glenn Ligon were also well represented in this relatively small art museum.
In a few weeks, there will be an exhibit featuring the works of Andy Warhol and Marisol at the Perez Art Museum .So enjoy this charming art museum.

In my opinion, the Perez museum is a third rate ‘World Class Museum’ imposter.
Unfortunately it is situated in a prime Miami location., and garners a great deal of undeserved publicity.
The Perez does not exhibit, high quality, unbiased, contemporary artwork.
In accordance with The Perez’s stated ethnic and racial partiality, The Perez primarily displays African, Latin, and Caribbean works of art. ( the best of the mediocre ? )
Do not waste your money.
P.S. Read the other reviews. Very few positive reviews, refer to the actual artwork.
The typical time spent at The Perez is about one hour and a half. That alone, should indicate the universal lack of interest in The Perez’s inferior presentation.

5 star scenery.. 2 star display.

Ok I’m going to sound very *art critic* here BUT … in my opinion, the most impressive aspect of this museum was the building’s exterior. My husband and I spent an afternoon strolling through downtown Miami and were excited to experience the Perez display. Parking and entry is a breeze and ticketing is as to be expected. The museum walkthrough is seemingly large with a winding second level to the exhibit. The first portion of contemporary art was vibrant and well-organized in each space. As we progressed however, I wasn’t so much satisfied with the displays.

Art appreciation is largely opinion-based, yet i think the majority of museum-goers are more impressed with works requiring a unique creative vision, keen workmanship, or a brand new technique. As an artist myself, i can appreciate art of all kinds….. but truly….. there not much talent to see here.

The museum’s exterior, on the other hand, is a sight to see. This is a beautiful location with surrounding view of both downtown Miami and the Miami harbor. If nothing else, come for the view.
