I had been to the spa several times prior to the pandemic. The Mandarin Oriental always offers the ultimate experience. I arrived an hour before my appointment so I could enjoy their facilities. As soon as you arrive the greeter exchanges your shoes for comfy slippers and offers a tray with a hot towel and cool tea. I was then ushered into the locker/bath area. They are completely stocked with everything you could need. Once you slip into a luxurious bathrobe, you enter a relaxation room with comfy recliner‘s and a lovely water feature that is very soothing. Karene came to take me to the treatment room for my body wrap. She was delightful and made me feel very comfortable. Once in the room she made sure that I understood what it entailed and asked if I had any questions or any other requests. The products she used were fantastic. The scrub has an incredible oil that remains even after a shower, leaving the skin silky. After the scrub and shower, she proceeded to put very light mud over my body and wrapped me for 20 minutes. After another warm shower, my personalized body wrap left my skin hydrated and refreshed. I highly recommend the spa, I’ve already made another appointment. I regularly go to spas and this may very well be the best spa in Miami.

I had a great spa experience. My welcome was friendly. The men’s locker room was clean. I enjoyed the meditation room. My masseuse was Charlie. He was great—he found all my sore muscles from my half marathon run. He wore a mask at my request.

I did not have a good experience at the Mandarin Oriental Spa in Miami. Upon being led into the room by the aesthetician, she told me that I was late and that we wouldn't be able to spend the full time on the facial. However, I had spent 10 minutes in the spa lounge waiting for her to get me. When I protested, she had to go speak to her supervisor to see if she could give me the facial in its entirety. She was able to, but it really got what was suppose to be a relaxing experience off on the wrong foot. I also did not feel that the aesthetician was knowledgeable or experienced. She did not offer any valuable advice. The extractions that I paid a hefty sum for were minimal and I left looking much worse than when I came. In fact, I now have a large blemish on the side of my face. I have had several facials and have never had this experience. In my opinion, the facial was worth about $80 -- not the $175 that I paid. Although the facilities were nice, the overall experience was nothing special.

It had been a while since we have been here, and not a whole lot has changed. The spot is still a five star spa with several different options to choose from on the menu. We had a couples massage for 90 minutes and it was excellent. The amenities for used before and after were very nice. The shower in the men's locker room was the Kohler system that shoots water at you from every angle including the ceiling panel. The lighting changes and all I can say is that place uses a lot of water. The music plays in the background along with the water system. The sauna and steam room were both very relaxing.

I had the worst spa experience of my life at The Spa at the Mandarin Oriental hotel and I am a spa regular. My two friends and I were in Miami for a girl's weekend and wanted to have some spa time. We looked at reviews and decided on The Spa. Our appointment was at 5pm for 3 people. We were told to be there 10 to 15 minutes before. We arrived at the hotel 10 minutes before, but by the time we found the spa, it was 4:55pm. We then checked in and were told to wait in the lounge/lobby area until someone came to get us, which we did. We then spent 20+ minutes in the lounge chatting, looking at items for sale, etc. Several different staff members approached us suggesting items that we could buy, but no one came to escort us to our services. Finally we asked and the led us to the changing room, where we were told to "take our time" and when we were ready to go to a specific area. We quickly changed and went to the area where we met our service providers. At this point, we were all told individually that instead of the hour service we booked, we would only have a 20 minute session because we started late. I wasn't even told until my massage was over and I asked why it was only 15 minutes vs the 50 that I had booked.
This was ridiculous! We were there on time and no one ever said that our time started then. In contrary, they told us to TAKE OUR TIME!!!!
When we discussed with a manager, he said the only thing he could do is take 20% off. So I paid $128 for a 15 minute massage! Then on top of it, they charged us 20% gratuity!!!!
I will NEVER go back there and hope others see this review so they don't have the same experience.

Let me just say that I work in the industry and know how challenging it is to please Everybody so I wasn’t expecting perfection but a five star experience, yes!
I went with a girlfriend for a day excursion and booked an 80 minute massage and a 50 minute facial.
We arrive and were greeted very warmly by a French girl(forgot her name but she was the best interaction we had with anyone). The relaxation area is definitely old and water features is molding and needs a desperate update. The nuts in the relax area were rancid and the attention to detail was not there at all. When it was time for the service the guy that took me was very cordial and formal but here’s my gripe: I already filled out the paperwork that stated my medical and preference so don’t waste precious moments of my massage time asking me the same questions! Get on with it. The massage was okay, not great not horrible but for almost $300 I feel you should at least introduce me to #ZenHealingArts or let me experience divinity with relaxation, but he tried I guess.
Then he took me to the relaxation room and did not even know I was getting a facial after and there was a definite miscommunication between therapists as the little Asian lady that was to do my facial was looking for me somewhere else but she was early and actually opened the door in my friend taking a steam shower calling out my name!! My friend told her I was finishing up massage and to look in relaxation area.
Then the woman took me and had me sit in a chair first to discuss more stupid questions that I had already filled the paperwork out for and I told her I just want to relax and I’m ready to lay down.
Her movements during the facial were so fast, so rushed that it was not relaxing so I finally had to tell her to slow her movements so I can rest, they were to aggressive like she couldn’t wait to finish up and get out and off work Plus she was super short so she stood up and was literally on top of my face breathing right on to my face just centimeters from my ear! It was awful quite frankly. I would wouldn’t bother writing this if it had cost me $35 but this was a $200 facial and it was horrible!
Not a good experience at all, would never go back. They need to revamp the place completely. if you’re going to spend that kind of money there are amazing places with incredible service and amenities that make it worthwhile, unfortunately this is NOT one of them. When I tried to talk to them at checkout they were also clueless and tried to charge my card even though they had my gift card number in the computer from when I booked the appointment. It’s a hot mess. Not even 2 stars.
Live and learn, never again.

The Spa at the Mandarin Hotel Miami remains my favorite spa in Miami. The pampering starts at the reception desk where you receive tea, cold hand towel and comfy slippers. Next the receptionist escorts you to the luxurious changing and shower room where you receive a locket and robe. Once robed you wait in the zen inspired lounge with tea, herbal infused water and snacks. The music, waterfalls and recliner lounge chairs put you in a calm state. I received the 80 minute deep tissue massage with hot stones. I highly recommend Shanique. I suffer from lower back pain and felt much better after my visit. Definitely try the hot stones!

The Mandarin Oriental hotel chain has a reputation for 5 star service and being ultra luxurious. I came here for the day with my husband to enjoy the spa, pool, and La Mar and feel this hotel has lost some of its luster and falls short of the overall brands' standards. If I was spending $500+ a night for a room here I would not be happy with the service we received and the pool facilities as they are not on par with what they are charging.
Pool is very small and outdated. It really needs to be renovated. No music of any kind so it is eerily quiet. We were there when it was very slow yet we were not once greeted when we came to the pool and had to go get towels ourselves. Throughout the entire day we were only approached once to ask if we wanted to order anything. I had to get up to get menus myself prior to that. As far as pool restaurant pricing, we were expecting it to be overpriced being that it is a high end hotel but this place takes the cake! There is a difference between overpriced and highway robbery and when you are charging $16 for a hotdog (not even kosher or fancy kind) you are just ripping off your clients which is not a way to create goodwill and brand loyalty. On top of everything on the menu being ridiculously expensive, all options are low quality too. If you are charging $16 for a salad, not including protein (which is extra) then at the very least it should be organic! We ended up leaving pool and eating at La Mar which is a nice restaurant yet pricing was comparable to pool restaurant.
As far as the spa, we try a different spa every year and this one needs to be renovated to include water features and pre-spa relaxation activities you find standard now at any newer luxury spa. They only have a sauna and steam room which is very basic when they are charging top dollar for a massage. While everything was clean, locker room/ getting ready area was small. Actual massage was just okay, not terrible but not great either. My husband did not enjoy his massage. He said the technique they used was odd because the masseuse used her elbows for most of massage which did not feel good.
If I was visiting Miami and looking for a nice luxury hotel in the area I would stay at The Epic hands down over this place which is where we stay when we have a staycation. Pool is so much nicer and on a high story overlooking the bay and overall hotel vibe is luxurious but hip and trendy. If you're looking for a great spa I would check out Carrilion on the beach. Their spa amenities can't be beat!

Does anyone know if gratuity is automatically charged to treatments?
Written November 12, 2019
It is, but you can tell them how much you want to give. It’s automatic but you have an option to change it. I Don’t recommend you get services there. Miami is loaded with beautiful spas, do your research!
