    Easy Disembarkation from Cruise Ship
This is where our cruise ship docked on a sunny morning. The views of the city skyline are lovely. The cruise terminal handled the disembarkation smoothly and we were on our way in less than 15 minutes. Short drive into the city or to the freeway.

    Please REWARD EXCELLENCE
I am so very grateful for Mr. Jesse Valdez. He is an admirable young man who went out of his way to make certain that I was safe, comfortable and even fed 🥪! I am very impressed that he took notice of my silent fears and got me to a complimentary ride to the airport. I pray that God and your employer rewards you richly 🙏😊. Kudos Sir.

A descent port, but expect delays due to rude drivers.
We had two cruises leaving Port Miami in December. The first cruise we used parking garage G. The second cruise we used parking garage A. The parking spaces in garage G are smaller/more narrow. And with G, you have to go all the way around. Other people complain about the port. I think it is well designed, but drivers are the problem with all the lane changing and trying to get a car or two ahead by driving through a drop off zone. Garage A seems newer and has much wider spaces and more elevators. Overall, I give this port a 4 of 5.

Use the porters. They are hard working folks. Be sure to tip them well.
On a recent vacation in December, my wife and I had an excellent experience with one of the porters. We were handling not only ours but my in-laws luggage. When I told him how many bags, he didn't blink an eye. He helped me find all of the bags and loaded them onto his hand truck. This man was an artist. Please look at the photo of his loaded hand truck.

Uber Beats Cruise line Shuttles to MIA Airport
Options for getting from POM to MIA airport vary; cruise lines offer a shuttle bus (NCL charges $25/pp) or Uber ($15 late morning on day we checked). For more than 1 person Uber definitely is the way to go. Additionally, if your destination is the rental car center at the airport-> take an Uber. Cruise ship shuttle doesn’t stop at the rental car location so we got dropped off at American Airlines terminal and had to traverse interminable moving walkways before……..we got to a train stop, which finally got us to Budget RAC. With all our travel luggage this was a major schlep. Uber would have taken us directly to rental car center.

There's no other city in the world from where so many cruise lines depart. The port of Miami is strategically located on Dodge island between Miami and Miami beach.
On sailing dates it's a super busy and pretty much confusing place, but overall it works well. I see people here complaining about lines and waiting time, but for me it was understanding.
On our sailing date, 5 or 6 mega ships were departing each carrying 4.000+ passengers, that's 20.000+ people - this cannot be handled in minutes. After all we waited around hour and a half to board.
TIP 1: For cruising passengers, most rent a car agencies offer free shuttle from MIA airport to the port if renting with them (my fav is Alamo). Starting point at MIA is on the 4th floor of the rent a car center, for starting point at the port look for signs or ask someone of the port staff. You need your rent a car contract to board.
TIP 2: Best pics of Miami port are from the MacArthur cswy connecting the city with Miami Beach (TO Miami Beach direction). Look there're no bycicles and stop quickly in the bike lane - see my pics.

This is the cruise port for a few cruise lines. It includes but not limited to NCL, Royal Caribbean, MSC, etc. It was extremely busy in early morning until around 1 pm, when cruise passengers disembarking and embarking the cruise ships. There were private cars, buses, taxi, etc. tried to drop off or pick up their passengers and got out of the port.

Had to catch a couple of cruise ships from this port recently and it was a good experience — at least those parts of it that were in the Port’s control. It wasn’t fun to spend a couple of hours waiting to board with no information, but that was not the port’s fault. I got to experience two different terminals. I arrived at one very early and spent a few hours waiting outside. There were tables and chairs and lots of port personnel around, so it felt safe and comfortable. The staff even suggested some good nearby places to go for breakfast. The new RCCL terminal was very big and easy to transit through... lots of staff around. The only issue at the older terminal we went through (C I think but not sure) was that they used baggage carousels like in airports and it took me a while to find my bags! I think there were six or seven ships in port each day we were there — so lots to see... and the surroundings are gorgeous. It’s easy to get to the port and there are special capped cab fares from the airport, so it was relatively straight forward and easy to move through.

We recently had our first cruise since February 2020. Our cruise with Royal Caribbean, Terminal G, was leaving on April 23, 2022. We arrived at the Terminal on a pretty tight schedule. We had one bag with a weight of 34 pounds; we were dropped by the transfer bus right next to the porters responsible for loading our bag.

We wheeled the bag up to the cart and my husband had $2 out for handling this one bag. The head baggage handler, an extremely large man, immediately started haranguing my husband about how he, my husband, had " to show much more gratitude than that." My husband then pulled out a $5 and this man tried to take both the $5 and the $2. My husband said "No way."

No one from the cruise ship was there supervising and our fear was that somehow our bag would not make it on the ship if we did not cave in to this bullying.

We forwarded this incident on to Royal Caribbean immediately post cruise. Furthermore, my husband attempted to contact the Port of Miami directly with no results so far.

This port caters to cruise traffic and is well setup to do the job. Our ship docked beside a pier which was conveniently located such that we did not have a long walk to check into customs. There is a luggage carousel available where your baggage comes just like at an airport and then you line up to be processed. The whole process did not take much time and once we were through there were a group of people to assist in organizing taxis.

We did not wait long before a txi came to take us to the airport. Flat rate- $27US. No hassle. A refreshing change from the muck one goes through at Toronto where you are catured by a monopolistic taxi service and pay q normal taxi would cost. The ride is only about 15 minutes long . The driver was great.

Road signs to find the correct parking area were lacking. Once parked we needed to cross the street from the garage to the terminal with the stopping of traffic by a crossing guard. This guy thought he was the king of Miiami. We were sure he waived us into the crosswalk after cars had stopped, but all of a sudden he went crazy. He started waving his hands at us and yelling. We stopped and he stood facing traffic, the took his right hand and again made a wave gesture to us. We made a step and again he went nuts. Third time, same gesture but we crossed without incident. The people in the cars looked amazed and one lady looked like she was video taping what this guy was doing

Once across, we were shown where to stand for Royal Caribbean. We waited in a line for about 10 minutes and then they opened a second line. Everybody behind us jumped over and made it in before we did.

Upon our ships return, we were supposedly picked at random for a customs search and question session that took 45 minutes. Random? Bull. It is discrimination because 2 guys traveled together.

I always enjoy finding a historical marker so I can learn a little more about the history of an area. The Port Miami historic marker is located in front of Bayside and at the entrance to the port, at the intersection of Biscayne Boulevard U.S. 1 and Port Boulevard. Marker F-818 was erected in 2014 by Florida East Coast Industries, Florida East Coast Railway, Foreign Affairs Center, Inc., Florida Trade Association and the Florida Department of State.

After reading the marker I learned that the history of Port Miami goes back to 1895 when local land owners Julia Tuttle and and William and Mary Brickell convinced Henry Flagler to bring the railroad to Miami. The area was unincorporated and had only 300 residents when the first passenger train arrived in 1896. The original Port of Miami was where Maurice Ferré Park now sits. After making a channel, Flagler began offering passenger service between Miami and Key West in 1897. Flagler also owned a steamship company, Peninsular and Occidental (P&O) which provided shipping service between Miami, Grenada, and Nassau. In the early 1900s, Government Cut was dredged along with a new channel to what is now called Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami. This new access to the mainland created the Main Channel which greatly improved the shipping access to the new port.

After World War II Port Miami experienced a boom due to its proximity to the Caribbean and South America. A port expansion resolution was adopted by the city of Miami on April 6, 1960. The port was moved to Dodge Island which was created from three historic islands Dodge, Lummus and Sam's Islands which were combined into one. The port was formally named Dante B. Fascell, in honor of 19-term Florida Congressman Dante Fascell, Port of Miami is also now known as the "Cruise Capital of the World" and "Cargo Gateway of the Americas." The port is connected to Downtown Miami by Port Boulevard, a causeway over the Intracoastal Waterway and to the Watson Island via the Port Miami Tunnel. It is the largest passenger port in the world and one of the largest cargo ports in the United States. Over 5.5 million people a year pass through the port as they board such cruise lines as Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Disney, and MSC. The port provides hundreds of thousands of jo\bs and it positively impacts Florida's economy by providing over 40 billion dollars each year.

We were informed to arrive at Terminal B on Tuesday November 28th at 10:00am to be able to board by 10:30 for a wedding that was supposed to start at 11:00am. After arriving at Terminal B, we were informed by security that we were at the wrong terminal and had to walk to Terminal C, which was around the garage. Although there were elders with us we walked over. Arriving at Terminal C, we sat awaiting instructions for about 30 minutes. At this time the wedding planner arrived and spoke with the security staff and they informed her that we were again at the wrong location. That we needed to walk all the way around the loading dock, passing the second Terminal C entrance to an employee side entrance. Once again we gathered and collectively walked as a group, elders and mothers to be and all. Finally arriving to the now third entrance, we were met by another security guard that asked us why we were entering through here. We told him we were there for a wedding and were directed this way. He said that we were not allowed to enter and had to turn back. At this point great frustration started to grow within the group. It was a warm morning and we have now been walking for thirty minutes or so. The wedding planner started to speak with him saying this is where we were supposed to enter. Finally after ten minutes of deliberation, we were told that we would be able to enter through here, however the coast guard were running drills and we would have to wait an uncertain amount of time before entering. We were told that we would be able to wait and have a seat inside of the second unused C Terminal which we found was locked.
After waiting another fifteen minutes thinking the worst had past, a group of four security ladies arrived to open the doors. The grooms brother asked the security guard with badge number 101777 for a wheelchair for their grandmother and she responded with a terrible attitude saying it wasn't her responsibility to get wheelchairs for us that we needed to have scheduled that through Norwegian. Her response sparked a response from several of us in the crowd to which her attitude grew and she started yelling at us saying that she didn't have to be there and that they were opening up the Terminal as a favor to us. I want to know how this was a favor when we have been inconvenienced for the past hour and a half walking from one terminal to another then to another and no assistance for our elderly guests nor any refreshments for the mothers in the group that were expecting? At this point there was nothing but yelling between the two groups until we were finally allowed to enter the ship, which at this point is closer to 12pm. So not only did we lose an hour and a half of the wedding and reception, we were not even able to extend due to the ships departure time all while sitting outside being harassed by the rudest people I have ever encountered. Continuing to speak to us when we wanted nothing to do with them. This was absolutely the worst encounter with Port of Miami I have ever experienced and our party better be receiving some sort of compensation for all of the misbehavior and lack of knowledge from your staff.

We disembarked from our cruise and found the lines moved quickly and efficiently in the terminal. The port staff had things well organized. Outside, it was easy to get to the taxi area to catch a ride to the airport. Our ride cost much less than what the cruise ship bus shuttle quoted us; plus we didn’t have to wait for 40 other passengers to fill the bus before it could leave. The taxi got us to the airport in less than 20 minutes.
