Try to go in morning when it's cooler. We went Saturday evening and AC wasn't doing its job. Fortunately, the priest wasn't long winded.

The Basilica of Mary Star of the Sea is called a basilica instead of a cathedral because it is a church at which the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church did and would say mass if he were there. During the SpanishAmerican War, the Catholic...More

We visited here during our recent trip in June 2018. My interest in the church was in reading that Ernest Hemingway attended Mass here on occasion (though I've since read he went elsewhere). The most striking feature of the church, to me, are the doors...More

Hotel amenities were excellent. Staff (Agnes/Tracie/Viva) went out of their way to be helpful. Location vis-a-vis other restaurants and bars could not be better - all within walking distance. Will certainly be returning!

Loved this beautiful church that has French doors on both sides so you feel like you are outdoors. Grounds were beautiful also.

With the garden stone rosary path, the grotto, the outdoor arboretum style stations of the cross, the adoration chapel and the beautiful historic church, I spent the better part of a day here. Then visited every morning for prayer while we were in Key West

Comfortable parish church in the middle of paradise. There’s more to it than just the church - the gardens around it are calming. They have the rosary laid out in pavers in the ground in addition to the stations of the cross as mosaics.

When traveling I never miss Sunday mass, and this one was easy to find, and a pleasure to attend. Don't worry that the cushioned pews mean a long sermon; the local priest was to the point and interesting to listen to.

Regarding attire, Key West is VERY casual, so I would think that this applies to church also. When we visited during the day, we were in shorts; not sure that I would (as an older woman) wear shorts to Mass, but feel sure... More
