Not a must. En route to Jebel Shams is the old village of Misfat Al Abriyyin featuring meandering alleys amid crumbling structures.

This is a must see near Nizwa. The place have a lot of ancient houses still standing. The architectural excellence of olden times construction can be seen here. The place needs a bit of maintenance though.

This a wonderful little adandonded village in Al Hamra. Enjoy unique building technique of dry mud and palm branches. It's built on a rock which is already fascinating. Take a stroll through the dates plantation and falaj. It's a very interesting spot.

This is a beautiful old village to wander through. Some nice views, see the old aqueducts and stuff. There is a dress code and you will be shamed by the locals if you don't abide. Cover your shoulders and knees. Not sure about the knees...More

It is a very nice village on the mountains. When you reach the old village you have to park (that some times is a difficult task) and pass through the village to go down to the very beatifull valley.

Wonderful to wander through this atmospheric old town and down into the reinvigorating green. With superb views over the valley and the feeling of rare humidity on your skin it is worth a good side trip up the mountain.
