- Caribbean S140 contributionsDifficult to NavigateOur family went here during the rainy afternoon. It’s great if you’re into dolphins and turtles. It is not easy to navigate even with a map; lack of concise signage doesn’t help either. The employees are nice. Parking is on the 3rd level of the parking garage and it’s $12.99 to park. Younger kids would probably enjoy this place the most.Thank you for taking the time to write in about your visit to Clearwater Marine Aquarium. We are sorry that your visit did not live up to your expectations. While we have recently expanded with a new multi-level Visitor Center and Stone Dolphin Complex, which have added five times our previous guest space and provide a 1.5-million-gallon habitat for the rescued dolphins, we understand that navigating through parts of the original CMA facility remains a challenge and we continue to work toward improving this guest experience for our visitors with new maps and wayfinding to ensure you don’t miss any exhibits and animals. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, we hope to welcome you back in the future.Written December 26, 2022This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited December 2022Traveled with familyWritten December 20, 2022
- Ivy R4 contributionsOver price for the experienceNot worth the money anymore. Not worth it with preteen/teenagers. We went in 2017, military used to be free, it's now 50% off. Parking was $12, that needs to be put out on the website so customers are aware of the charge when planning. Then we went to get tickets, I told the cashier 1 child and 3 adults over and over, she still only charged for 3 adults, she claimed I never said child, even though the other 2 adults spoke up and said yes she said 1 child and 3 adults. Back in 2017 there was so much hands on and more animals to explore. There was even a separate build for all the movie props and scenes. No longer there. There were so many dinosaurs around it was very odd for and AQUARIUM!!! On the map there was suppose to be a space exhibit, it wasn't there. We were in and out in 1.25 hours. Very disappointed and won't be returning. The new build is nice but poorly used and poor exhibit for the money. There were a few dolphins, 2 otters, a few turtles, and 4 pelicans, stingrays, and a small fish tank. They did offer a free audio tour to follow. We apologize that your visit did not live up to your expectations. Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a non-profit marine life rescue facility. 100% of the net proceeds generated from your visit goes directly to supporting our mission of rescue, rehab and release of marine life, and the long-term care of our resident animals. - Heidi WClearwater, Florida7 contributionsBeautiful but way overpriced. We visited the Aquarium years ago and wanted to see the new facility. Went with my 2 grown children and an 8 year old. grandson. It was a beautiful facility to visit and we enjoyed the views of the dolphins and the surrounding views. Some of the exhibits were interesting. The presentations at the animal tanks were informative but many were too long winded to hold the children’s attention. There was not enough to do in between waiting for the presentations and movies. We missed several things because it is hard to plan around the schedules. The entrance fee is way overpriced for the experience ( I know I know “supporting sea rescue”) especially because you are being asked to spend even more $ at every turn. Many items were up charges… boat ride , VR experience, mining activity, gift shops at every turn and have to walk through one to exit. Also had to pay for parking. The food at the cafe was decent and not super pricy but VERY slow and it was not that busy. You have to buy a combo meal that includes a drink ( we don’t drink sodas so that seemed a waste for water). It was a very expensive 2-3 hours when all said and done. The Tampa Aquarium is more value for your $ and can engage you for most of the day.Hello Heidi. We apologize that your visit did not live up to your expectations. We are certainly a bit different than your traditional "aquarium" in that we are first and foremost a working marine animal hospital. - JadeLakeGrand Rapids, Michigan37 contributionsCircles in concreteOver priced entrance fee, dolphin nervously swimming in circles in concrete rooms, exhibits with nothing in them (Turtle Cove, Otters). Waste of time and money. The best thing to say is that they rescue…but if you are saved quality of life does not look good. Good for kids who don’t know the difference. Save your money, go to the beach.Hello Jade. We're sorry to hear that Clearwater Marine Aquarium was not what you expected. We are certainly different from a more traditional aquarium, in that our focus is on the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of marine life. The only resident animals that we have at our facility are those who have been deemed non-releasable by the government, as they lack the skills necessary to survive on their own in the wild. We are not known for breadth of marine life species, but for inspiring stories of resident animals given a second chance at life. - crocusloverFrederick, Maryland799 contributionsNot an aquariumWaste of time and money. This is not an aquarium like normal aquariums. It is a hospital and rehab center for aquatic animals. Super ugly concrete structures. Big concrete tank for dolphins. Woo hoo. The entrance fee for the five of us was $177 plus $12 for parking. Then, before we even showed our tickets, they asked us if we wanted to pay $20 each for a boat excursion! Well, apparently, the boat excursion greatly adds to the experience because most positive reviews have included that. It's just too much $$ for too little. If you want to support this rehab effort by all means go ahead. Just know that this is NOT a beautiful aquarium with lots of colored fish and coral, etc. And also, it's a bit creepy because they have all these huge animatronic dinosaurs with bandages on them all over the place. Apparently they all have injuries and dinosaurs are now extinct so let's take care of our manatees etc. so that they don't go extinct. Oh, okay. I had to ask because i could not figure out how the dinosaurs fit in.We're sorry to hear that Clearwater Marine Aquarium was not what you expected. - montanapescadoAlbuquerque, New Mexico1,184 contributionsKnow what you're paying for.Lots of bad reviews here, which is understandable since this is not a typical aquarium This is not about looking ar pretty fishies in attractively designed aquariums. This is a wildlife rescue, meant for functionality first, education next, and entertainment last. It's also expensive relative to most aquariums. Remember, you're supporting dolphin rescue and science rather than your fun time. That said, there is much to learn... and much to enjoy here. the sea turtle rehab is particularly interesting. During our visit, there were also a variety of beautiful owls you could get very close too, including Screech Owls, Barred Owl, Barn Owl, and a Great Horned Owl, all absolutely magnigicent.Thank you for taking the time to write about your visit to Clearwater Marine Aquarium. - JB66_12Perry, New York29 contributionsdolphin/turtle rehab center! The entrance fee seemed a bit pricey, but then you're contributing to a non-profit organization. For 4 of us the cost was over $100. It was interesting to see turtles, dolphins and otters. The otter demonstration was disappointing because we could barely understand the live commentary - not clear. There was also a stingray pool where you could touch the stingrays. There were interactive displays for children too. Lots to learn there about ocean inhabitants.Thank you for taking the time to write about your visit to Clearwater Marine Aquarium. - Illinois shopperIllinois City, Illinois105 contributionsGood ExperienceThis is a good and informational experience on the rescue and rehab of marine life. It is a beautiful building yet it doesn't have a good "people flow" to it. We found ourselves rambling between floors and not quite knowing where to go next. The good news is that there are a lot of employees and/or volunteers to ask when in doubt. Although many times we were told, "it is posted on the TVs that are located throughout the museum". We enjoyed the otters, the turtles (although the sound system was not great and the girl sounded muffled), the dolphin show, and having a glimpse at the hospital and the kitchen. We were there many years ago and there was a display of the clothing and settings from the movie, Dolphin Tale. I asked 4 employees if that exhibit was still there and they all looked at me with a dumbfounded look. Overall I gave this a 4 star rating as I think it is very good as long as you temper your expectations .Thank you for taking the time to write about your visit to Clearwater Marine Aquarium. - W1nterBabyNazareth, Pennsylvania434 contributionsA great experience and supporting a great cause.A nice day out and not too crazily priced. If we had more time in the area we would have bought the combo pass that gives access to five different entities, which is discounted. Very interesting exhibits and shoes. Friendly staff. Lots to see, however the layout is a bit confusing. There are eating facilities onsite. Plenty of parking. They have a photo shoot for you on the way in, which you can purchase on exit. I think that’s great for families traveling. There are mechanical animated dinosaurs throughout, which make alot of noise, but I guess it entertains the kids for a few minutes. There are gift shops. Lots of add-ins you can purchase for behind the scenes tours, etc. The facility serves a great cause in rehabilitating these animals and educating the public. Highly recommend.Thank you for taking the time to write about your visit to Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Your feedback is appreciated, as it is valuable to us. - CruiserIllinois406 contributionsCool placeWent there twice in one month. Once with another person and then husband and I went back and took the dolphin boat ride. The weather was good. Saw some dolphins. The employees at the aquarium always seem cheerful. Yes the layout can be confusing. The price of the food is not bad. We had a membership so we could get thirty percent off food and gifts. Will probably go back next year.Thank you for taking the time to write about your visit to Clearwater Marine Aquarium. It’s a lovely place. But poorly marked. You saw fish and never knew what they were. Or tanks that were empty. A little confusing on where, what and when. The staff were excellent.

Our family loved it! Our 11 month old son super enjoyed watching a staff person feed, play, and train one of the dolphins. The background stories about the marine life who reside at the rescue were very moving and helpful with an explanation as to why each animal was brought in and their life changing injuries. The care and passion these animals receive under this facility's care is really great.

Nice place. They're actually expanding, we enjoyed our visit. people who work there are extremely friendly and knowledgeable including the volunteers. we spent many hours asking a lot of questions. we took the Safari boat tour, which I highly recommend enjoyed it very much. Saw quite a bit of sea life. My only complaints are. The tickets are quite expensive but it does go to help taking care of the animals, Unfortunately, I'm afraid many families would pass this over because of the cost. My biggest complaint It's it's very confusing where you're supposed to go for the different demonstrations, there are 4 floors. It will tell you a certain demonstration is at 3:45 PM and meet at the turtle tank. But it doesn't tell you which floor the turtle tank is on. It's very Confusing. I spent a lot of time asking people who work there where I needed to be, and most had no clue, and by the time I got there most of the stuff was done. You cannot take your own food in and food is about $18 a person for a meal. Buying a food voucher on line saves you about $2. Also let me warn you about parking, it says park in parking garage on 3rd. floor, what it doesn't tell you it's $15 more for parking, park on the street, I was very angry that it doesn't tell you that ahead of time. If your looking for an aquarium experience, this is not the place. This is a rescue and reserch center. I tried to leave a review on their website but it won't let you.

The build a salad for a turtle experience was not something we’d recommend or do again. My 7 year old is still less than impressed almost two weeks later. lol The intern seemed very uncomfortable around people. At the end of the tour there was another volunteer present and I asked if there was a map somewhere, or which way to go to get back to the beginning since our sea turtle experiment brought us straight to the turtles . They argued and gave me conflicting information about which way to go and I was told there was a map at the entrance where we started. Found a map as soon as I left he turtle room. 🤦🏻♀️ Watching the dolphins was definitely the highlight of this place. There are several windows that allow viewing underwater as well as an area on a higher floor to watch them at the surface. After paying for parking and the experience I wouldn’t go again.

We had a wonderful experience, despite a drizzly day. The staff is very helpful and informative, especially Fernando in the Sea Cavern. He had answers to all of our questions about the amazing little deep sea critters on display.

I will start with why only 2 stars….as an adult way too much money for what you get to see. Very disappointed! If you are taking kids that what to draw and guess question there were some things that would keep them busy. Murky waters, few exhibits and no clear way around - kept walking in circlets hoping to find more or something else. Been to the Denver Aquarium years ago and the exhibits and number of exotic fish, coral reefs and tanks were so much more. Again disappointed for a state surrounded by water this was the best use of a volume of space…

Family enjoyed our visit back to CMA and were delighted to see the new exhibits that were added. Although small to learn the stories from the staff of the animals in them was great. love sitting and watching the dolphins in the windows and be able to interact at times with them. Love the events they do, the food in the Cafe, the boat trip and some of the behind the scene experiences, and the gift shop. We understand this is a working marine hospital and what we special goes back to the rescue, rehab and release of these precious animals. it is sad others don't understand this is not a normal aquarium. Always find the staff very attentive, professional and really care about the animals. Anytime we are in the Clearwater area we visit and support CMA!

We've been to CMA several times over the years, pre Dolphins Tale, post Dolphins Tale and now to the new building. CMA has gone from a working rescue center that welcomed the public, to a bland, sparse tourist trap. Firstly we were stunned by the $12 parking charge, in an area with hardly any public parking this is just an unavoidable additional cost which just alienates and fleeces visitors before they've even entered the Aquarium. Apart from the new tanks (most of which had filthy glass), they have simply scattered all the elements from the old building around the new, making it feel like it's half finished or being decommissioned. There is a weird aloofness to the animal staff, as if you should be privileged to watch them work. Whilst their 'work' looks like the public paying for them to hang out and indulge their hobby. Then there's the self important volunteers, who love the sound of their own voice and will talk at you with rehearsed trivia and pompous factoids. The final insult of our visit was when we asked a question at the information center and got SET UPON BY A CMA ENDORSED TIME-SHARE SALESMAN!!! This visit was an upsetting experience, the ruination of a once wonderful organization.

This was a wonderful opportunity to see some of the work the Clearwater Marine Aquarium are doing to help marine animals. The ethos is that of rescue, rehabilitation and release. It was amazing to see how they are helping and providing long term care for animals not suitable for release and adapting their environments to help them manage with the challenges that they face.
The team and volunteers were engaging and enthusiastic and willing to take time to answer questions, etc.

Yes, with general admission you are free to roam all open areas at your own pace.
My wife and I covered the whole thing pretty quickly just to see what's what and then went back and spent additional time at the most interesting spots.

So I noticed in one of the reviews (I can’t remember if it was on here or YouTube) that you have to be at the aquarium at the scheduled time of your admission. When looking at the site to purchase tickets, I’m not seeing an option to select a time? I just want to confirm so I can plan accordingly prior to buying tickets, can we just go whenever? Or are there designated times during their hours of operation that you’re allowed to go?

Hello! I am planning a trip to Clearwater for Jan 2022. My sons love A Dolphin Tale and I was hoping to take them to see Winter. I've heard there are times that she is not available for viewing. My question is... Is there any way to know ahead of time that she can/can't be seen? I see there is a photo option that would guarantee sighting, but unfortunately, that's not in the budget. Thanks for your help.

I’m visiting with a 3 year old and a 4 month old. Wondering if I should bring a double stroller or just let the 3 year old walk and wear the baby in a carrier. I’d prefer the double stroller but the older facility was pretty cramped.. wondering if the new expansion makes it easier for strollers.

yes you can use strollers
