the elevator to the second floor was welcome... parking was just outside the door. the art was a mix of photos, drawings, and sculpture.

I never fail to visit the City Hall Art Gallery because the exhibits change so often. Take your time as you stroll through the various art and rest when you feel like it on one of the comfortable chairs. Afterward, plan on strolling through the town that has many interesting shops and highlights -- including the tall town tower, paintings of the fire department and police that look so real you're surely stop and gaze at them for a while. Don't miss the huge statue of a Confederate soldier on the corner near the Courthouse, and if it's a hot day, find a chair in the shade and just people watch. Don't forget to go inside the weird gift shop that used to be a gas station. It's hard to walk out without buying something!

We visited on a Tuesday afternoon. We were not greeted by anyone whatsoever when we walked in. There were no indications of where to go or what could be off limits, other than "employees only" signs. The paintings are a bit cluttered and hung sometimes three to a wire from a hanging system. Visually, the curating did not make much sense. Adult artists were hung near student/children artists, inhibiting the natural flow of the experience. Employees worked inside offices as we meandered unescorted through the maze of hallways. Zero security. The walls are painted a uniform government butter yellow and the lighting is fluorescent. To call this a gallery is generous. We toured the entire place in 20 minutes. There appeared to be little rhyme or reason to the collections.

In the words of my friend, "a pleasant way to spend the afternoon". The receptionist greeted us immediately upon entry and drew our attention to one of the local artists displayed. It was interesting to see the different mediums used by artists; many items were for sale. Air conditioning, an elevator, and chairs for relaxation make this an appropriate adventure for an elderly person. The City Hall Art Gallery gave me a sense of pride in being a resident of Hernando County.

A local told us about this art gallery and on a windy day, we decided to forego boating and, instead, visit this art gallery contained within Brooksville's City Hall, We were happy we did and spent almost 3 hours admiring the sculpture, paintings from local artists, an old anvil from days long gone, and a special section of art work by school children. There are also display cases of jewelry that's for sale. You enter City Hall and immediate are impressed with the displays on the first floor. Then you can either walk up to the second level on the long staircase, or, as we did, took an elevator reachable in the back of the building next to an office. Again, on the top floor, we were amazed at the beautiful art and the striking way it was all displayed. Bathrooms are available, the gallery is well lighted and it was a joy to browse through the numerous art work. We know we'll visit again. Admission is free and parking is nearby.
