Arrived Frankfurt on Monday morning and drove to Darmstadt to see the castle on our way to Heidelberg. Beautiful scenery approaching the castle and parking was easy. Walk up can be challenging for mobility challenged folks, but well paved. Grounds are small, nicely kept, but...More

I really enjoyed my visit. It's just a short 10 minute drive from Darmstadt, and it's well worth it! The castle grounds are really beautiful to look at. There are several places to climb to and have a look around the entire area. While I...More

We joined in the Halloween festivities on site of Frankenstein castle on Sunday afternoon. Very crowded but definitely fun Koop around the grounds of the castle complete with scary monsters and villains. Many families attended in costume so join in the fun. Food and beverages...More

We decided last minute to take a trip to do Halloween at Burg Frankenstein. It is well worth the drive and money. The busses run constantly from the P&R to the castle. The one thing you have to get used to here....the actor can touch...More

We attended the annual Halloween Festival at the castle on Children's Day, held on Sundays. Children's Day is intentionally less scary (the staff makes an effort to show the kids dressing up and being scared can be fun) and we were not disappointed. Our group...More

It's big and I'm sure it's great to walk around and explore, but they were already setting up for their Haunted Halloween Festival when we went on September 29. So we really couldn't go through very much of it. Rather disappointing.

Nice drive up to the castle which is set in dense green forest. There must be lots of biking and walking tracks all through the hill the castle rests on. Well worth checking out if your passing within 50km or so. There were small areas...More

We went to this castle because of the name and proximity to Frankfurt. We stopped by late afternoon after a day trip to Heidelberg. We didn't expect much and were pleasantly surprised. It's free and has great views. Our 6 and 9 year old kinder...More

If you’re traveling the A5, this site is a quick jump off. Easy to get to via car and the site and parking are free. It is a small site, not in the greatest shape but you can still see there was a grand castle...More

The ride up the hill to the castle is great. Very steep and winding, narrow road. There is a restaurant that serves delicious food. The castle is in ruins but it is really cool to say you've been there.

You will most definitely need a reservation at the restaurant and I don't believe it will be closed during the daylight hours. We were able to go in before it officially opened and walked around before others started coming... More

You should be able to get a taxi to take you up but it is a long drive so it may be costly. I would rent a car. Enjoy!
