A tornado slammed through the Phineas Taylor Barnum museum in Bridgeport, Conn., in 2010, damaging the building and necessitating a multi-year renovation with a hoped-for completion in 2019 or 2020. BUT--you're in luck! One wing of the building, on Main Street, quite near the train...More

Thanks for the great review! We are certainly glad you stopped in and were as amazed by Barnum's life story as we are.

I stopped by the Barnum Museum on the way back to Pennsylvania from visiting family in CT. It's convienant to find as it is visible from 95 and signs navigate you around the one way streets. Parking seemed easy enough on a lazy Sunday afternoon...More

It's truly sad that perhaps one of the most famous people associated with a circus is associated with a museum that is ONLY open on Thu and Fri for a few hours of the day. It's also located in a crappy part of a crappy...More

Museum is only open on Thursdays and Fridays, from 11am to 3pm, and Saturdays during the summer. Fantastic artifacts. Funny docent lady with a slide show.

We got to the museum only to discover most of the building is closed due to tornado damage. The older lady at the entrance offered a tour and mentioned a free will donation. She said the tour would be about 25 minutes but it actually...More

Although the museum is undergoing repairs/restoration it is worth the visit...a small or large donation when you enter would help their cause. The items they do have on display are quite unique and interesting enough to investigate the stories of Barnum and Tom Thumb.

I brought my girls here as a treat after seeing The Greatest Showman movie. Even though the original building is undergoing much needed restoration, what they do display is still interesting. The curator definitely added some added history as well. We truly enjoyed this experience....More

This museum is under restoration due to some tornado damage, so you don't actually go in the main historic building. The exhibits/artifacts that are on display though, however, are pretty interesting. Our tour took about a half an hour where we learned a bit about...More

Funky place. A delicate gem where you feel like your presence helps to keep it alive. Docent was as enthusiastic as any I've seen and the stuff was cool. If only they really had Jumbo.
