The visitor’s center is in an old house right on the edge of town. They have information about area businesses, but also restrooms and a water fountain. This former mining town is now a popular tourist site, and it’s fun to walk around the very...More

We came during the month of January. The best part was the drive to Silverton from Durango but take a rental instead of your own vehicle. The mountain driving was rough on my transmission. As for Silverton just about everything was closed except for a...More

Silverton is a must stop for anyone traveling. It is right out of the 19th century. Some of the roads are still not paved. There are no stop signs or traffic lights. The Main Street looks like a western town. Each building is painted a...More

At first glance you wouldn't think Silverton would have a visitor's center, but they do. On the other hand, when you think about it, why shouldn't they?

There is plenty of information located here. I cannot remember what we actually purchased here, but it was very reasonably priced. There were a lot of people as trains, buses and tourists were coming in all morning. Be prepared to wait in line.

Great tour of the mines in Silverton, Colorado and the museum was really great! Very detail about the history of mining. Down in the mine was fun. Took a rail car in.
