We picked up the free Summer Guide copy of the World Journal at a local shop and found a great map of the route with all the points of interest marked and explained. It made the beautiful drive even more interesting and educational. Just fascinating!!

This is a beautiful drive with easy elevation changes, mountain views, blue lakes, wide ranges...simply everything you could ask for in CO scenery. We take the "back way" every chance we get. This highway proved to be one of the very best.

We went for a Sunday afternoon adventure, and really enjoyed this scenic drive from Trinidad to La Veta. It is beautiful with many scenic moments. This range of mountains is spectacular, and a wonderful way to spend time. Lakes, pine forests, and the little town...More

Sight seeing from LaVeta is a beautiful experience. From the Highway of Legends (Highway 12) through Cuchara, the volcanic dikes and the volcanic plug were amazing.

we used this highway to get to our lodging in La Veta. it is a winding road through beautiful countryside that you have to slow down to benefit from but it is so worth it !

I like to drive, if I can help it I wont fly. So for me this scenic byway is the perfect loop. The scenery is great and there are some little towns along the way that are worth checking out.

To each his own, I guess. We enjoyed this lightly traveled, easy road from La Veta to Trinidad more than the well-known, more dramatic drives in the western part of the state. There is quite a variety of scenery, there was still some leaf color...More

Great trail heads close to highway between Cuchara and La Veta. The Indian Trail head is only a seven miles from highway south of La Veta. There are two trail heads in Cuchara.

The drive on the Highway of Scenic Byway in Colorado was wonderful. The color contrasts yellow, dark green and browns were breath taking.

Driving along the dikes outside of La Veta is a one-of-a-kind experience. You'll not find this kind of geology elsewhere in Colorado. The drive, a a whole, is pretty cool. You'll go over Cuchara Pass, which is gorgeous but not scary at all. The drive...More

We went from LaVeta to Trinidad so got into the amazing beauty immediately. The area going into Trinidad isn't as beautiful. Stopping at the Dog Bar in Cuchara is a good start or finish matter which way you go.
