A Miserable Cash Grab with No Apologies
Against my better judgement, I returned to the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park on April 7, 2023. A sunny day with no wind, but the gondola had been closed down earlier in the afternoon and all the staff was sent home. I arrived at 4:02 pm with three hours before the sunset and bought 5 tickets for my group at a price of $135.00. Only after I had paid did the manager tell me that the park was closing in less than an hour. Only after I had paid! When I bought the tickets online, there was no mention of a 5:00 pm closing. I then asked why the park closed so early, her response was because the sun was going down and it would get dark, I replied, "The sun goes down after 7:00 pm in early April!" She responded that management was trying to cut staffing costs and 5:00 pm is 5:00 pm! AND she said that next month, the price of admission is going up to $35.00 per person! Once again... A TOTAL RIP-OFF!!! You will be extremely disappointed with your experience at this miserable cash grab!
I am so sorry your trip to Royal Gorge Bridge and Park did not meet your expectations! We do close in April at 5pm. If you are in the Park before 5pm you can stay until 6pm if the sun is still up. I apologize that you were not a where of this. It is not policy to cut staff to save cost and we apologize if someone mistakenly told you this. The gondola must have closed earlier because of a high wind. When the wind reaches 35 miles per hour, the manufacture of the gondola states we must close for the safety of our guests and ride attendants. You could have your tickets validated at the Visitor Center when you left and returned the next day for the gondola ride and anything else you missed.

Not worth the cost at all!
The two-star is solely because of the price. I paid $170 for my family of 5. That's not a large amount at all but I look at what you get for that cost. We got to walk across the bridge, watch a 20 minute video about the history of the park and my youngest played on the playground. We would've ridden the gondola but it was closed due to the wind (not their fault but when you pay the ridiculous entrance fee, it's disappointing). You can no longer go down to the bottom of the gorge because of the fire in 2013. If you want to do either of the thrill attractions, you pay more ridiculous fees. The prices for food and drinks are theme park prices. Don't get me wrong, the gorge is beautiful. The experience, however is nowhere near the cost.
This property was gifted to the City of Canon City by the Federal Government in 1906 and it has been a business since 1929 when the bridge was built. It was always intended to be a tourist destination and has provided the local economy a huge economic impact in both funding as well as jobs. You may buy an Early Bird ticket, 9 am to 10 am or an End of Day ticket, one hour before the Park closes. It is available at the Park only. This ticket is $26.00 for adults (May 1- Sept 30th) $21.00 for adults ( Oct 1st- April 30th.) You may stay all day if you wish. If you choose you can by your tickets on line for a $3.00 discount on each ticket. Due to our location and lack of city amenities, our operating expenses are similar to that of a small town. Many guests do not know that we have our own water treatment plant in order to have potable water in the park. We do try to keep our prices in line with similar attractions, despite these added costs. Thank you for visiting us and sharing your experience; we appreciate your feedback. Ok but disappointing
We hadn’t visited the gorge for 30 years and were disappointed with the infrastructure upkeep. It costs $35 per adult to walk across bridge. There were lines at both mens and women’s toilet in visitor center, only 3 toilets. Pavement on walking paths were disintegrating everywhere. There was a fire that burned most of the structures on the far side of the bridge so all those buildings have been replaced and look great. Gondola wasn’t running due to storms in the area but it would be nice for the park to post a sign indicating such so that folks don’t have to walk up the hill to the rim to find this out.
That is a great idea, so people would not have to walk up the rim when the Gondola is down do to the weather. I will share your great idea! The Park has changed and we are continually evaluating the value proposition of our attractions and amenities and strive to offer a diverse range of experiences that appeal to a wide range of guests. Our admission fees go towards supporting maintenance, upkeep and operations of of the park including the bridge and attractions. Thank you for your feed back.

Really pretty but not worth the cost
This is really pretty and also really expensive. I don’t think it’s worth the cost. Included in your ticket is the gondola ride, walk across the bridge, and their free movie. The zip lining and rock climbing are extra add ons. If this were free or even $15 per person I’d give it 5 stars. But to charge $35 is a bit outrageous for what it is. You can see the Grand Canyon for less.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We do have different pricing options including Early Bird and End of Day pricing, on-line discount, Military, and others. Many guests do not know that we have our own water treatment plant in order to have potable water in the park. We do try to keep our prices in line with similar attractions, including the price for the Royal Rush Skycoaster and the hands free Cloudscraper Zip Line despite these added costs. We hope you were able to watch the Birds of Prey presentation with the raptors showing off their skills in the Plaza Theater, rode the Daisy's Carousal, or enjoyed an ice cream from Dippin Dots.

    Not worth the cost
Overpriced for what you get. We walked across the bridge and back because gondola not running because of wind. Went into theater to see short movie, very juvenile. Man who came in and spoke before film kept his back turned to the audience the whole time….looking at an empty screen. We, and most of the audience, were all laughing because no one could understand a word he was saying! View from the bridge was great but certainly not worth $35 each!
We appreciate your taking the time to review your experience while in the park and are sorry the aerial gondola was unavailable during your visit. For the safety of our guests, it is necessary to temporarily close this ride due to weather You can get your ticket validated at the Visitor Center when you leave to come back the next day. The morning seems to be better for the wind. When we get all the snow melted on the mountains, the wind should be better in Colorado. Wish you were able to take in the Birds of Prey in the theater. It is an interactive show with raptors showing off their flying skills. Many guests do not know that we have our own water treatment plant in order to have potable water in the park. We do try to keep our prices in line with similar attractions, despite these added costs. Thank you for visiting us and sharing your experience; we appreciate your feedback.

    Kinda worth it...depending
I was disappointed this time around. Though it's been years since I was last here, I think that the changes have resulted in this location being a bit "sterile". The " small town" look is gone, opting for a "cleaner" look that, for me, takes away the original ambiance of this location. I am also disappointed that the vertical railway is no longer working. I've enjoyed going down to the river level in the past. The view is still breathtaking and worth the visit, but the gift shop is much smaller than it was in the past, this limits the selection. The cafeteria is the same way. Overall the experience was average, except for the view which is spectacular.
Thank you for your feedback. It has been a long uphill road rebuilding the Park from the wildland fire. The only things that survived the fire were the bridge, theater, Cliffside Patio, Skycoaster and our Big Horn Lodge. We had to rebuild the Visitor Center, Gondola, Water Clock, Zip Line, and Juniper Junction and have added attractions we didn't have before like the Tommyknockers Playland. It has a new carousal, splashpad, shooting gallery and two story jungle gym.. We have the Birds of Prey presentation in the theater with the raptors flying about. A new video and the artifacts in there as well. We wish we good rebuild the vertical railway and are continually brainstorming on old and new attractions. We will post all new attractions on the web-site. We appreciate you leaving us your review. It helps in letting us know what guest like and what they want to see more of.

    Tourist trap at best
Most of the park is depends on the wind - or lack there of. I get that. But there is no way to find out what is running until you get there. And it is the same price if everything is running or nothing. So we drove 1.5 hrs out of our way and wasted a vacation day and $148 to walk across a bridge.
Thank you for your review and visit to the Park. The manufacture of the Gondola sets the wind speed for shut down at 30 miles per hour. If it reaches this we have to shut it down. We open it back up when the wind dies down. We have a rides information sign where you buy your tickets. It is constantly updated and is red when closed, green when open, and yellow when temporally closed. We update our web-site daily about any schedule closings for maintenance. We hope you were able to visit the other general admission attractions such as the Plaza Theater, Tommyknockers Playland, picnic areas, and scenic outlooks. We have refreshment booths and 2 restaurants to relax after your mountain park exercise. We are sorry we did not meet your expectations. Many of guest don't know we have our own water treatment plant on site so guest can have potable water in the Park. Our operating cost are those of a small town, but we still try to keep our prices in line with other attractions in our region.

Great views, might not be worth the price.
There are some terrific views and photo opportunities here. However, the price is really high. The day we went the aerial gondola was not operating. We were told that was due to lightning in the area. I never saw any, but I also don’t know their required safety radius for lightning. It was also very windy, which might have contributed. But when you’re paying that much to get in, it’s a real bummer not to get to take advantage of all the attractions included in the admission price. I don’t regret going, but I don’t think I’d ever go back a second time. There are many other beautiful vistas to see throughout the area.
Thank you for visiting Royal Gorge Park and Bridge. Two things that shut the Gondola down are the lighting and the wind. I am sorry it had to shut down. The manufacture sets the wind tolerance on each ride, so for the safety of guest we must abide. You can get your tickets validated when you leave at the Visitor Center to return the next day, if you wish. It seems the mornings are the best times for weather. We appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review. Your feedback is important to us.

    Tourist Trap
I am so disappointed with the Royal Gorge Route Railroad. So much so, I don't know even know where to start. My daughter and I drove for over two hours to get to the boarding station at gate 2 (Canyon Top Dome 68) on July 30, 2023. We were seated in a very small u-shaped booth which had absolutely no view of the outside. This booth (row 702 seats 1 and 2) could've fit two people in it reasonably comfortable, but we were crammed in it with two other people with no leg or arm room what so ever! The price we paid for these tickets compared to what we received is a total rip off! I would continue with my review, but I think you get the point. The advertisements and brochure's make it look beautiful but the actual experience? Not so much. Definitely would not recommend. To anyone!
We are so sorry to hear your trip was horrible. We actually are Royal Gorge Bridge and Park. I am sure if you reach out the train which is Royal Gorge Route Railroad they would appreciate hearing from you.

We were driving between Alamosa and Manitou Springs, CO and decided to make a stop for the hike to the Royal Gorge Overlook. We did not pay to go into the park or walk on the bridge. The hike to the Overlook can be reached by turning South on CR 3A. Drive 3.5 mi to a parking lot on your left. The Trailhead is on your right. About a mile or so to the end of the trail on your left and you'll find where you can get a view of the Royal Gorge Bridge. We enjoyed the excursion and glad we got to view the bridge. We didn't need to pay to go in to walk it.

Very beautiful views from the bridge, a river below and lots of mountains. There is zip lining and other activities if you’re into that, there is also a restaurant and gift shop. Cash and credit card accepted, such as touch to pay if you’re wondering.

This should be on everyone's list of Colorado highlights. They told us when we entered if the winds were too bad the gondola would be closed and there would be no refund. When we got to the trail leading up to it there was a sign posted it was closed. However the zip line is next to it and the sign did not say it was closed so we made the long steep trek up to it. It was also CLOSED! It was super irritating to have wasted the time. I asked the young people in the ticket booth why the sign didn't include the zip line. They could not have cared less--as if it was my fault for not knowing.

The bridge itself is very cool and quite the engineering marvel. It was the highest suspension bridge in the world until recently. It takes about 20 minutes to cross it. On the other side is a movie theater, restaurant and carousel. When we were there, it was too windy for the gondolas. The place is well done, but if the gondolas aren’t running, the price is too steep for what you get and I would skip it. The film was made to entertain children but was a bit distracting for adults. The staff was very nice.

Check the wind speed before you go. If with wind is ~30 MPH, the gondola will not be running. Call ahead to confirm if this is a requirement for you.

As a few others have noted, although it is not posted on the website/app, you will receive a nice discount if you purchase your tickets before 10am. I believe it was $21 (vs $30) per adult, with a similar discount for other categories.

The theater on the other side of the bridge has a 17 minute video. The video had a high production quality, and was pretty entertaining for all ages. There are some newspaper clippings and other artifacts in the room, so go a few minutes early to check these out.

We went early on a weekday, so there were no wait or a short wait for the gondola. I could definitely see how this would not be the case during the high season or weekends however.

Overall I was skeptical of the value given the ticket price, but the overall experience was excellent and I would highly recommend. The included gondola rides were great, and we spent over an hour playing in the playground.

Pros: The awe inspiring and natural beauty of the gorge itself, the price wasn’t bad considering the gondola ride was included, all the nice staff, nice eateries and staff.

Cons: I can’t really think of any - that’s a first!
