The Colorado Shakespeare Festival is a professional theatre company in association with the University of Colorado Boulder. Since 1958 the festival has celebrated and explored Shakespeare and his continuing influence and vitality through productions of superior artistic quality, education and community engagement. CSF strives to preserve the classics of the past and pursue the classics of the future. Fueled by artistry and scholarship, the festival seeks to expand the cultural richness of the region by inspiring, challenging, and cultivating the imagination of audiences and artists. Plays are performed beneath summer night skies in the historic Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre and in the newly renovated indoor University Theatre.

Sorry, but I cannot recommend the performances at CSF. The actors look lost on stage, with no clear sense of purpose and story. This can only be a result of direction, or more precisely, lack thereof. Save your money and hours on this planet for...More

The CU Shakespeare Festival performance of "Taming of the Shrew" was wonderful. The setting in Little Italy was interesting, and the use of the original speech went off very well. The cast did an excellent job, under difficult and often wet and slippery conditions. We...More

I first attended outside productions in the '70s, and just this summer had the opportunity to see a few plays, both inside and outside. The inside plays were exceptionally professional and creative, and we appreciated the chance to book matinees. But the outside theatre, Mary...More

I've attended plenty of CSF plays, all in the Mary Rippon outdoor theater – until this one – and all legitimate Shakespeare plays – until this one. I should've done my homework before the night before the play – as in BEFORE I booked my...More

The setting is beautiful. Some plays are performed outdoors, and some are indoors. In either setting, you will enjoy the event. (If outdoors, bring rain gear. Brief showers will not stop the performance and are common in the summer.) You are also able to order...More

Really enjoyed Julius Caesar Thursday night. The acting was very good and enjoyed the intimacy of the Mary Rippon outdoor theater. I appreciated that the play was a traditional setting, not set in another time or place. As others have mentioned, the provided portable seats...More

I have never seen "The Taming of the Shrew" but this season I was able to thanks to CSF! Set in post-war, New York, the cast provided a humorous consideration to the highly charged "war of the sexes." Scott Coopwood as "Petruchio" was excellent! An...More

We have seen Shakespeare in Chicago, and Spring Green, and Ashland OR, and this can hold a candle to any of them. Professional actors, and creative direction made the June production of The Taming of the Shrew completely enjoyable. Often panned as a misogynistic story,...More
