We were walking along the waterfront and came across this museum. The gentleman working there was very friendly and full of historical facts. This stop was a great history lesson.

The nice little museum was closed for covid, but still have a look even after hours, because there are plaques outside that describe how the railroad built the town and then only recently faded away, with this historic building being the last reminder of another era.

We decided to visit on our return from a great Island trip but return journeys were too far apart for us all to make it. We have passed it so many times in past visits to Tiburon we promise not to miss it on our next trip. When all is said and done we only live on the English East Coast!!

If you are a train buff, get yourself to the Tiburon Railroad & Ferry Depot Museum. There is a scale model of Tiburon with a working model train -- if you are nive they run it for you. Cool bit of history in motion.

Great little museum. Very interesting museum and showing what Tiburon was like at the turn-of-the-century. Make sure you visit upstairs to see where the conductor of the railroad lived with his, family, very interesting.

We love history and to explore the past of places we visit! This FREE little museum is such a treasure!! If you are lucky enough you will go when there is a docent volunteer who knows some of the stories that made up this huge railroad town and shipping yard over 100 years ago. There is a large layout of the town the way it used to be. Amazing to see it and all the pictures of the busy town and shipping port this used to be. Also have films to watch...love that stuff!! Some artifacts from the period also. BUT a treasure of a find there was the book "Blackie" I purchased portraying the true story of the horse that lived there.. beautifully illustrated by Paige Peterson who knew the horse as a girl. Blackie's bronze statue is seen standing in his original pasture as you enter Tiburon. A timeless treasure to read to my grandchildren!

Dating from 1885, this was the passenger and freight depot for the San Francisco & Northern Pacific Railroad. The museum has limited opening hours, 1-4pm Wednesday and Weekends, from April-October. The Victorian style building has wonderful redwood and Douglas fir siding and floors and has fascinating old photographs of the area.

This is a nice side show and if you are into history it is packed full of photos showing haw we got items across the bay pre-bridges. You can also have a little picnic on the grass all around and enjoy the view of sailboats on the bay, if you find the sun out.
