Santiago Park is a tucked away secret. My daughter does archery and we accidentally discovered the range, when we could look down from the 22 freeway and see it - you know one of those things, "hey, how do you get down there?". We searched it out and found it. It even has been upgraded recently with new fencing around the facility. The new nature center is at the entrance to the archery range driveway off of Memory Lane - I haven't been there yet- but it looks like a nice building. And just as a point of information there is a police dog training facility next door to the archery range - you can't see the dogs from the park or range - but it is there in case you are wondering what it is.

Santiago Park is a long slice of rural nature in the city. It is a park that follows Santiago Creek down from the Santa Ana Mountains to the Santa Ana River and bike trail. In Santa Ana, it becomes Santiago Park,
which occupies land south and west from the 22 Garden Grove Freeway area through Hart Park in Orange along Memory Lane to the Santa Ana River and the
RiverView golf course, designed partly within the large riverbed
itself.
On north and south sides of Santiago Park are a variety of mixed- use residential, retail, private houses, and educational/cultural uses such as the Discovery Cube Science Center, Main Place, and City Place shopping centers. Some of Santa Ana's finest historic and premium neighborhoods are nearby on either side of Santiago Creek as it travels from the 22 Freeway past trains passing on an overhead trestle, big boulders lying in wild grasses, a full-scale archery range, a dog training center, a "Back To Natives" native plant nursery open to the public,
and tree-lined jogging and bike trails with nature lovers and Audubon bird watchers!
The Santiago Park Wildlife and Watershed Center is a modern facility where native life leisure classes occur to discuss local flora and fauna! There, birds, and butterfly species are identified before nature walks, and volunteers can meet there for planting exercises and creek cleanup, At the outdoor boulder-created stage, amphitheater, and fire pit, private parties with live acoustic guitar is not uncommon
Animals in the park range from squirrels, raccoons, field mice and rabbits by day to coyote at night! Owls, hawks, and various birds from noisy woodpeckers to colorful bluebirds, finch, bright green parrots, and black crows make the area home! Even two small red fox were spotted early one morning not long ago.
Also in the park are tennis courts and a softball diamond. Most notable, however, is the Dale Griggs Lawn Bowling Center and its meticulous greens under the pines! When players appear, they dot the landscape scene in white uniform outfits and enjoy handy
kitchen facilitiies at the Santiago Clubhouse.

A relaxing place to spend time in the city. I enjoy spending my lunch break there. It is nice to get out of the office/or take a walk. Conveniently located near shopping, restaurants and take-out.
