A Fun train ride in Oakdale - Currently no longer running.
The train cars went to Napa to be used by the same company that ran the trains.

We took the train a couple of years ago on a whim. The crew and food were wonderful. The old train and old tracks were less fun. The view from the train is good if your new to the area, I would recommend this ride as a different approach to dinner.

Sadly, there is no longer a Sierra Dinner Train in Oakdale. They suddenly left with no explanations.

We have taken the train a couple of times, mostly in the winter or fall months. Once we had slight rain or fog that covered the land where you could still see but we felt like we were suspended in a cloud or in a cocoon! It was really cool! We got hot chocolate and cookies at the time and it was very festive!

We purchased tickets for the beer train. Tickets are rather pricey and included 6 tastings. It seemed as if no one working the train knew anything about the sampling process which left all ticket holders confused. Poorly advertised breweries. The only way to find out where the beer was located was to walk up and down the entire length of the train. There were only 6 options of beer to choose from (only 2 represented breweries) and the train ran out of beer before the halfway point. Needless to say, we were very disappointed at both the limited selection as well as limited supply. As you can see, we still had sample tabs left after the beer was gone.

Dear Michelle, Thank you for your feedback. We would like to apologize for your negative experience on board our train. We did unfortunately have a brewery that was scheduled, not show up for the train. It is our intent to give people a unique venue to have fun and be carefree, and I’m sorry that your experience on the Beer Train did not live up to that. I appreciate the feedback about the locations of the tasting stations. We will immediately be including a map of the train and locations of the tasting stations on the welcome letter that all guests receive. As of writing this, we have already been in touch with you through other channels and hope the refund we gave you is acceptable.

A trip on the Beer Train. The selection of the 4 breweries was a good mix, the band was jumping and the VIP food was OK. The ride is interesting but not overly exciting in where the train goes. It would be nice if it actually went to the foothills. Overall and enjoyable evening with good friends!

My husband took the High Noon Express, a 2½-hour round trip from Oakdale. We bought “premium” tickets, which included a lunch and the option of up to four drinks per person, including small glasses of beer or wine offered on a “tasting” menu (you could even keep the souvenir glass if you wanted to).

Lunch consisted of two airline-style servings of different kinds of salad, a bag of chips, and two very pretty spiral turkey “wraps.” It all tasted good, and the wraps were visually interesting as well. The two women who took care of us in the premium car were very friendly and attentive. The seats were comfortable, and the trip overall was pleasant and relaxing.

Unfortunately, if you’re expecting scenery, you’re pretty much out of luck. The view consisted of farm animals, fruit trees, and grape vines: a good sampling of California’s Central Valley “breadbasket,” but not really much to look at. The company does offer themed rides, for instance a “murder mystery” one, and perhaps one of those would have been livelier.

Whether you go for a dinner train ride, the Christmas train, or any other special event, it's a good choice. Food and drink is good and you get to see scenery that you can't see from the road. Kids love it too.

The train ride was a bit disorganized. The service was lacking as was the scenery. No one to greet you when you get on the train. Paid for snacks on the train they gave us a cold sandwich. reception for music was none. No phone service. The train ride went up one way and came back the same track for a three hour drive. For the wine tasting the gave us tickets so you can move along the train to taste different wine in different compartment on the train. Not enough employees on the train had to wait for service. It was an average train experience not enough to do on the train ride.
