This is a phenomenal collection but it needs a narrative to guide visitors around. Open rooms with a row of (great) pictures but no guidance about the inspiration for pictures left a gap. The Van Gogh museum provides a narrative about the artist's life and...More

Unless you are a keen Dali admirer, you may wish to save your money ($20 for adults; $16 for seniors; recuctions for students and children). The works on display are predominantly from the 1950s to 1970s, and mainly in the form of lithographs. Dali was...More

Even if you are not a Dali fan, this is a very interesting museum which showcases Dali's work through film, sculpture, paintings, prints, written materials. Dali lived in the Monterey area for several years following WWII. Interesting historical perspective on his life in Monterey. Well...More

If you are a Dali fan, this should be on your visit list. But it is far from the best Dali exhibit or museum in the world. And it’s expensive. At $20 ($16 for seniors) it’s quite overpriced. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New...More

Absolutely, Dali lived right here during the 40’s. A lot of time just to the south in Asilomar and in the hotel that became the Naval Postgraduate School. But the point is THIS MUSEUM right off of the commercial pier. The works are presented in...More

I should begin by saying I am a Dali enthusiast. Most recently, I visited the Dali Museum in Bruges and was a bit disappointed. So, I was a bit apprehensive. The museum surpassed my expectations. The tour guide was fabulous, very knowledgeable. She was open...More

It is expensive, and there is no documentation to speak of to put the works in context. By works, BTW, I mean low-quality prints. Also, impossible to find. Boo

While it's a bit of a challenge to find as you need to enter a parking lot to get to it, it was worth the time. The descriptions for each painting are very helpful and the art works are nicely displayed and provide other aspects...More

Great host took a small group effectively through the museum in less than two hours. The paitings are interesting and I did not know before coming there that he, Salvador Dali and his wife lived in Monterey for eight years from 1941. A wonderful surprice.

Monterey's relatively new Dali museum brings a much-needed burst of high end culture to the waterfront area where a cluster of historic quaint buildings maintained by the state park system hold fragile ground against the tsunami of t-shirt and seashell shops and chowder eateries. Don't...More
