The Malibu coastline is like a chameleon. In some areas it resembles the French Riviera with its lush, green hillsides descending into crescent-shaped shorelines. In others, it feels 100% Southern Californian with beaches wide and flat as a football field, and often crowded with beach-goers lounging on towels and playing volleyball. Other coastlines still feel secluded, tucked under tall cliffs and dotted with stunning rock formations. In certain areas, where the ocean waves are just right, surfers can be seen bobbing in the water. Up in the mountains to the east hikers take in truly stunning views of the ocean and the sprawling Los Angeles landscape. And along Pacific Coast Highway, restaurants are filled with visitors and locals from all walks of life. Stumble into the right place at the right time, and you’ll likely encounter a celebrity.

Our family stopped by for a bit of sightseeing but found ourselves somewhat underwhelmed by the experience. The pier boasts only a restaurant at one end and a cafe at the other, with a lone souvenir shop positioned at the outermost edge. We anticipated more shops or attractions nearby, which left us feeling disappointed.
Moreover, the $15 parking fee felt unjustified, especially considering the narrow parking spots that made exiting our car a challenge.
We attempted to grab a coffee at the Malibu Farm restaurant, but were informed by the hostess that they could only seat patrons ordering lunch or dinner. Her suggestion to visit the pier's cafe didn't suit our plans, so we opted out.
Unless you're solely interested in beach activities, I would advise against stopping here as it doesn't offer much else of value.

Pier seen in many films, worth going there for a spectacular natural landscape. In the mid-afternoon we went down to the beach and walking all the way to the houses by the sea, I can say I saw the most beautiful sunset of my life. I will remember it forever

I visited here yesterday morning. It was very well maintained and has one souvenier shop and one restaurant at the end. Many fishers line the pier throughout the day. Easily accessible from the main road and free parking nearby. A jack-in-the-box just outside the main entrance too.

This place is decorated with extreme beauty and absolute peace. We loved walking along the pier and then along the beach. Since it was January, the water was super cold but delicious. The landscape of Malibu is immense, it is a city full of glamor and incredible peace. On the pier there are restaurants and cafes where you can have breakfast or lunch while contemplating the beautiful landscape of the sea and the hills. This place is highly recommended if you visit California, you can't miss it.

Lovely quaint old pier with a decent cafe and shop at the end. Impressive views from the pier of the surrounding beaches and surfers. There are other options to eat across the highway from the pier if you want more options. However the pier cafe serves good quality food supported by friendly staff and a decent level of service

A nice old pier to talk a stroll on. Great views of the coast. A little resturant / cafe at the end.
Don't expect a bustling pier, this is a locals pier that has not been commercialized, so keeps it's charm.

We spent part of a sunny afternoon here. Parking is available. Restaurants, shops, fishing, views. Surfers were off to the west. It is a good place for photos and to walk around for an hour or two.

No there there. We didn’t find a town. Lots of dangerous fast traffic on coast highway. Had a terrible diner at Geoffrey’s. Can’t see the beach or ocean due to a wall of beach houses.

Very picturesque and much more low key then the various Piers to the South. Breakfast was just “ok” at Malibu Farm but may have just been our selections. We enjoyed our brief stop here during our Pacific Coast Adventure. It does get pricey quickly though! Would probably skip on next 101 trip.

This past Sunday, August 23rd, I drove out early to fish for a couple hours on the Malibu Pier - a spot I have frequented for over 25 years, being a local. I pulled up at 9:15am - pretty early but it was a Sunday in Summer, so I anticipated some crowds. I pulled up to park in the Pier parking lot for $15 - a very fair price. There were roughly 30 vacant car spots, but the gate was blocked, and when I asked the attendant to let me in - he first waved me off and ignored me. Then I honked and got his attention, and he started yelling and screaming at me that they were full, and had to maintain capacity. I indicated there were ample empty spots, and he waved me off and ignored me. I found a spot down PCH and walked up to the pier, where I saw not 5 (five) minutes after I was there, the same attendant letting in ONE CAR AFTER THE OTHER - 10 or 20 cars freely pulling in. I could not believe my eyes. I was discriminated against. I approached the attendant and asked him to explain what had changed, and why he had aggressively and explicitly denied me the chance to pay $15 to park, but allowed everyone else. He was entirely caught off guard by my confronting him on his absolutely illegal and unkind behavior, and asked why he had discriminated against me? He just yelled and screamed at me, told me he chooses who does and does not park at the pier and that he was tired of seeing white people. I was truly gobsmacked, and just walked away. I am now preparing a lawsuit against the Malibu Pier and the parking service that manages the lot for illegal discriminatory practices.
I hope the attendant gets sacked, truly. Whoever he is - he is a disgusting, reckless individual unfit to represent Malibu, the Pier, and the community - just awful.

How fast does parking fill up? Time of day until you are out of options?
Written July 2, 2018
We got a street spot relatively close on a Friday night around 6pm but then couldn't find anything and the lot for the pier was full on Saturday morning around 10:30am. Same thing for early Sunday morning.

is there a cost to go on the malibu pier? name of restaurants on pier?
Written May 24, 2017
The restaurants are Malibu Farms and Malibu Farms Cafe (smaller menu, quick service style, at the end of the pier)

Hi everyone, I will be visiting Santa Monica in June and we are planning on taking the bus along to Malibu for the day. As we will only be there for the day we don't want to waste any time so I would appreciate if anyone could recommend the nicest beach to visit or anywhere nice in Malibu that we could go? Also my trip won't be complete without a typical tourist pic beside the Malibu "27 Miles of Scenic Beauty" welcome sign, does anyone know where this sign is or which beach it is closest to? I will appreciate any help! :)

Is there public parking at the Pier? If so, how much is it?
Written September 10, 2015
There is a parking lot that fills up fast next to the pier, and the parking ranges from 10 to 20 dollars. There is also one across PCH next to the Malibu Inn/Casa Escobar. Parking along PCH is free but hard to find.
Written September 11, 2015
There is a commercial parking lot nearby. If you are at the right place at the right time, you may be able to find on-street parking along the Pacific Coast Highway near the pier.

Sorry, not something I can help with - we were pretty much there for a very limited time on our way to LAX. The other reviewers' advice sounds good though
